Public distressed by increasing price of petrol-diesel, planning of Maharashtra government to give relief by increasing the tax on liquor

SEP 20 (WTN) - Prices of petrol and diesel are increasing in India almost every day due to weak rupee against dollar and increasing crude oil price in the international markets. Prices of petrol and diesel are still at the highest level due to which the general public has to face problems. In this way, the Maharashtra government is contemplating to introduce a new scheme to reduce the price of petrol and diesel.

According to information received from the media, under the scheme, Maharashtra government is considering to increase excise duty on foreign liquor made in the country. It is being said that by increasing tax on liquor, the government will reduce the tax on petrol and diesel.

For your information let you know that there has been no change in the tax on IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) in India since the year 2013. According to the information, the Maharashtra government is considering to increase the excise duty on IMFL, which will give the government more revenue. The government can cut taxes on petrol and diesel by using this increased revenue.

According to information received from the media, the Maharashtra government had increased excise duty on beer in the year 2017. Excise duty was increased in the year 2015 on country liquor and military canteen. Petrol prices in Maharashtra are highest in the country due to higher VAT and other reasons. The state government of Maharashtra charges the highest VAT on petrol and diesel compared to any state in the country. Petrol in Parbhani (Maharashtra) is being sold in Rs 91.6 per liter, while the diesel has reached around 80 rupees.

In Madhya Pradesh, some suggestions have been given to the government that excise duty on liquor should be increased and the revenue generated from it can be used to reduce tax on petrol and diesel. Madhya Pradesh Congress president Kamal Nath has also suggested to the Shivraj government that the tax which is being levied by the public on petrol and diesel, same tax can be levied on the liquor. There will be no loss of revenue and people will get relief too.

Well everyone is suggesting that by increasing tax on alcohol government can increase the revenue and later can use it to reduce petrol-diesel prices. These suggestions are great to say, but the fact is that alcohol consumption is not as much as the consumption of petrol-diesel, as the revenue is being imagined by increasing taxes on liquor. If the price of petrol and diesel is to be reduced, then there is only one solution, the government should reduce the unnecessary expenses and eliminate the unnecessary schemes.
