Nine independents win in the 1998 assembly elections
Independent candidates can prove to be a threat to BJP and Congress on many seats
OCT 17 (WTN) - In the last five assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, the main contest has been between the BJP and the Congress. In 1993 and 1998, Congress had won in the assembly elections, and then in three consecutive elections in 2003, 2008 and 2013, BJP defeated Congress and formed the government. Apart from BJP and Congress, BSP, SP and Bhartiya Janashakti Party have managed to win some seats.
Talk to the Independent candidates in the Madhya Pradesh assembly election, every time many independent candidates have contested in the assembly election, most of them deposits forfeited. But these independent candidates have been successful in subtracting vote of BJP and Congress candidates, due to independent candidates in many seats, the BJP and Congress candidates have been defeated. Not only have this, in many seats, these independent candidates’ defeated BJP and Congress candidates. Let’s tell about the performance of Independent candidates in the last five assembly elections.
In the 1993 assembly elections, a total of 1814 independents were contested in the state's 320 seats. Out of which 1786 candidates’ deposits forfeited. These Independent candidates got a total of 5.88 percent votes and they were successful in winning 8 seats.
Talk to the 1998 assembly elections, in this elections there were 320 seats in the state and 892 independents had contested, out of which 859 candidates’ deposits forfeited. Independent candidates got 6.49 percent of the total votes in the 1998 assembly elections and they were successful in winning 9 seats.
In the 2003 assembly elections, independent candidates got many votes due to the anti congress wave, but they couldn’t win more seats. In the assembly elections of 2003, a total of 879 independent candidates contested in 230 seats in the state, out of which 869 candidates’ deposits forfeited. In this election, independents got 7.70 percent of the votes but they could win only in 2 seats.
In the 2008 assembly elections, independents also got very much votes. In this election, a total of 1398 independents contested and got 8.23 percent of the votes, but out of this, the 1384 candidates’ deposits forfeited and only 3 independents could win the win.
In the last assembly election i.e. in the year 2013, a total of 1090 independents had contested, but this time 1076 Independent candidates’ deposits forfeited. Independent candidates got 5.38 percent of the total votes in this election and could win only 3 seats.
