Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections: Does both BJP and Congress have 'no confidence' on Muslim candidates for victory?
NOV 13 (WTN) - The BJP always seems to be accused of being anti-Muslim. It is said that the BJP doesn’t give tickets to Muslim candidates in elections. In the last Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, the BJP gave tickets to only one Muslim candidate. In the 2013 assembly elections, the BJP had fielded Arif Beg from the Bhopal-Uttar seat against Congress candidate Arif Aqueel for the election. In this election, Congress candidate Arif Aqueel defeated BJP candidate Arif Baig by 6,664 votes.
This time in this Assembly election, BJP has fielded a Muslim woman candidate against Congress candidate Arif Aqueel from Bhopal-Uttar constituency, so that Arif Akil could be involved. Fatima Rasul Siddiqui, the BJP's only Muslim candidate, is the daughter of Rasul Ahmad Siddiqui, former minister of state and mass leader of Congress. Fatima joined the BJP on Thursday and soon the BJP gave her ticket.
For your information, let you know that Arif Aqueel has won the Assembly elections in the years 1990, 1998, 2003, 2008 and 2013 from Bhopal-Uttar seat. In 1993, Arif Aqueel was defeated by BJP's Ramesh Sharma. The Bhopal-Uttar seat has been a stronghold of Congress and BJP has again fielded Muslim candidates against Arif Aqueel to win this seat.
Professionally dental doctor Fatima's father died twenty years ago. After the death of Rasul Ahmad Siddiqui, his wife asked Congress for ticket from Bhopal-Uttar seat, but Congress denied her wish since the Siddiqui family's relationship with the Congress was over. It is being said that BJP is planning on a strategy to circumvent Arif Aqueel through Fatima Siddiqui. The Bhopal-Uttar seat is considered as a stronghold of the Congress for years. To win this seat, BJP can take out its big Muslim leaders to campaign in Bhopal-North.
Apart from Fatima Siddiqui, the BJP has given ticket to any other Muslim candidate in the Assembly election. In this matter, the BJP has to say that if there were winning Muslim candidates, BJP would surely give them tickets. Congress, which talks about the interests of Muslims, has given ticket to Muslim candidates in just three seats out of 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh, in those seats where the number of Muslim voters is high.
Congress has given ticket to Arif Aqueel from Bhopal-Uttar and Arif Masood from Bhopal-Madhya. For your information, let you know that Arif Masood had contested from Bhopal-Madhya seat in the last elections on Congress ticket but lost against the BJP candidate Surendranath Singh. At the same time Congress has given ticket to Masarrat Shahid from Sironj Assembly seat of Vidisha district as its candidate. Masarrat Shahid had contested from Sironj seat earlier but she had to face defeat.
Now it is necessary to see how many Muslim candidates will be elected in this Assembly election. In the last Assembly election, Arif Aqueel was the only Muslim MLA. As far as the Bhopal-Uttar seat is concerned, it is being said that this time Arif Aqueel can get a tough fight here. This is because BJP candidate Fatima Rasul Siddiqui's family has an old relationship with politics and due to Muslim and female candidates, BJP hopes to gain mega support form Muslim voters dominated Bhopal-Uttar Assembly seat.
