DEC 14 (WTN) - Returning to the power after 15 years in Madhya Pradesh, Congress has finally announced Kamal Nath's name as the next Chief Minister of the state. After the meetings, held in Bhopal and Delhi on Thursday, Congress late last night finalized the name of Kamal Nath as the CM of Madhya Pradesh. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, between the young leader Jyotiraditya Scindia and veteran Kamal Nath, preferred Chhindwara MP Kamal Nath, who has been close to the Gandhi family.

Madhya Pradesh Congress President and Chhindwara MP Kamal Nath was born on November 18, 1946. Kamal Nath was student of Doon School in Dehradun and before graduating from politics, he graduated from St. Xavier College, Kolkata.

Kamal Nath came to Chhindwara for the first time on October 24, 1979 and in 1980, he reached the Lok Sabha by winning the Lok Sabha election from Chhindwara in the age of 34. After this, Kamal Nath's wife Alka Nath was given the ticket and she won the Lok Sabha election. In 1997, Alka Nath resigned from the Chhindwara Lok Sabha seat and after that in the Lok Sabha by-election in Chhindwara, former BJP Chief Minister Sunderlal Patwa defeated Kamal Nath.

Kamal Nath was Minister of State for Forest and Environment in the Central Government from 1991 to 1994 and after that from 1995-96, he was the Union Textile Minister, from 2004 to 2009, he was Union Commerce and Industry Minister, from 2009 to 2011, he was the Union Transport Minister and from 2011 to 2014, he was Union Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs Minister.
