WTN: The idea that too much animal fat and high cholesterol are dangerous to your heart and vessels is largely a myth. Most people do not know that they need to have cholesterol as an essential condiment for their good health. Life without cholesterol is miserable. A person can get weak, slow, frail, and impotent without the right amount of cholesterol in the body.
The body needs cholesterol to make vitamin D, to make sex steroids, and to make the membrane of a person’s cells and also the brain. There is no such thing as good or bad cholesterol, but mental stress, physical activity and change of body weight may influence the level of blood cholesterol. In the prestigious medical journal The Lancet researchers looked at 724 people and followed them for 10 years.
They found that higher cholesterol meant a lower chance of dying from any cause. People also know little that many of the cholesterol-lowering drugs are dangerous to health and may shorten life. Drug companies quickly engineered a pharmaceutical to stop the body from making this presumed enemy “cholesterol,” and food companies went right along. They’ve convinced the whole world that cholesterol is an enemy in the diet. They’ve created these new foods without cholesterol and people will pay extra for them. To have nutritionally-deprived products that are devoid of cholesterol is not good. Doctors all around the world are getting away with lowering people’s cholesterol even if they don’t have any disease and causing millions to suffer.
Our body produces three to four times more cholesterol than we eat. The production of cholesterol increases when we eat little cholesterol and decreases when we eat much. This explains why the ‘prudent’ diet cannot lower cholesterol more than on average a few per cent. Some simple foods to raise your high density lipoprotein (HDL) i.e. what is known as good cholesterol, quickly and easily are:-
Cod liver oil – It’s one of the richest sources of omega-3, and the more omega-3 you get, the higher your HDL will be. In a new review that looked at many studies over the past 15 years, they found that getting 1.5 to 2 grams of omega-3 a day will significantly raise your HDL. And there are 15 grams of omega-3 in just one tablespoon of cod liver oil. Eating fish daily also adds to our good health.
Guggul – This reliable ancient Indian herb comes from the resin of the guggul tree. Ayurvedic healers have used it for thousands of years as a heart-strengthening tonic. Guggul helps improve the cholesterol ratio (the ratio of LDL to HDL). Look for guggul extract standardized to 6% guggul sterones and take 300- 400 mg two to three times a day.
Flaxseeds – For those who do not eat fish or wish to take fish oil supplements, flaxseed does provide a good alternative. Flaxseeds are an excellent source of omega-3 essential fatty acids. They are a very good source of dietary fiber, vitamin B1 as well. Omega-3 fats are used to produce substances that reduce the formation of blood clots, which can reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in patients with atherosclerosis or diabetic heart disease. Flaxseed meal and flour provides a very good source of fiber that can lower cholesterol levels.-Window To News
