Jobs in 'danger' due to automation
Big question: Is the unemployment in the country increasing due to excessive use of computer?
FEB 25 (WTN) - Providing jobs for the vast population of the country like India is not an 'easy' task for any Government. At the time of election, political parties promise to provide thousands of jobs every year, but the reality is that due to the use of technology, there is a shortage of jobs. In order to do any work first, if 10 employees were needed, then due to the use of computer and other techniques, now it requires comparatively less employees to do the same work.
In India, when the computer was introduced first, it was opposed on the basis of the apprehension that due to this there would be ‘negative’ effect on the jobs, at that time all of had laughed on that ideology, but with time now the 'apprehension' getting proven right. According to the information, due to the use of technology in Indian banks, job opportunities are getting decreased day by day, the effect is that the youth, looking forward to jobs in the banking sector, is being frustrated.
Let’s talk about the country's largest bank SBI i.e. State Bank of India, will replace only 75% of new people in place of the retired employees in the next five years. This is because due to the use of computers and other technologies, the related work in the bank is being done quickly with the help of comparatively less staff, in which State Bank of India has decided to recruit fewer employees than the retaining staff. That is, in the beginning of fiscal year 2018, SBI started the recruitment process of just 10,000 people, instead of retiring 12,000 people.
According to the information, millions of educated youth in the country are working hard for employment, in such cases SBI is getting qualified candidates due to this tough competition. One can say horrifying situation of unemployment or wanting to work in SBI, in the last two years, nearly 28 lakhs people applied for the 8,000 posts of clerk in State Bank of India and the bank found highly educated employees as an MBA and engineer in this tough competition.
For your information, let you know that not only due to the new computer technology around the world, banks have started reducing the number of employees. While the UK's famous bank HSBC has decided to halve its network in the country, while Standard Chartered Bank has closed its 200 branches due to automation.
It is true that due to the new technology, the work is done fast and efficiently in the institutions, whose benefits are being received by the human. But due to the new technology in the country with a large population like India, lacking of jobs are a cause of concern. For a long time the demand has been rising so that the government should make laws for the population control as early as possible, so that the pressure of the growing population in the coming time will not face by the country and the youth of the country can get jobs. If this does not happen, then in the future, technology is gradually moving towards ending lakhs jobs.
