Arindam and Group

There was an era where we had a handful of singers in the Bollywood industry say, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, Asha Bhosle to name a few. It was an era when an artist had to keep visiting the recording house to appear for an audition live, well I am talking about times when there were gramophones and vinyl records. The recording wasn’t an easy task then. The advance equipment like spool tape was only available with recording studios. The struggling artist couldn’t even think of owning equipment like that.

It wasn’t that there were no talented people around in that era, there were quite a few who never could reach the goal they dreamt of. If you come back to and compare the transition between the nostalgic era and today, you could see there has been a tremendous change. It went from vinyl records to spool tapes then cassette recorders to CD players and MP3 players. Over and above the television industry has boomed up from one Doordarshan channel to over 300+ channels out of which a few channels have made Talent Show’s their bread and butter.

It has become really very easy for a budding artist to reach out to the masses. Take YouTube, for instance, a robust video platform where any person with a good internet connection could create an account and upload videos they make, recently YouTube has also added a feature to go live as well. Many have taken this up as a boon to showcase their skills by uploading self-videos and web series.

We came across one such group of friends in Bhopal who call themselves ‘The Rubberband Project’.

This group of artists live with the motto of having fun and bringing smiles to people. It is the brainchild of Arindam Sinha, Harshit Sharma and Avinash Gautam, who founded this band in the year 2015. Initially, it was formed with the aim of performing live shows, releasing music covers and producing good music.

Although it has also incorporated accepting projects from other artists and helping them with music and video production. Disha Malviya, 20, the Director of Photography takes care of the filming of the covers with active support by Harshit, who also does the editing. There are a bunch of people who have time and again assisted the crew with shooting like Sagar Bamer, Kanishk Rawat and Yogesh Shukla, who have had their hands on everything from lights, cameras, sound, set and directing. Arindam Sinha, 20, is the vocalist of the band while Harshit, 22 is the bassist and Avinash, 22, the lead guitarist. The trio has been performing at various platforms and bagging a few prizes down the journey. It has released music covers on YouTube in collaboration with other artists with its most popular cover of the song 'Hona Tha Pyaar' crossing over 15k views.

An offer from Style Address, an online seller, has agreed to sponsor costume and styling in the upcoming videos by the band which has been one huge achievement. They look forward to coming up with more of entertaining music, working with other artists, giving new faces a platform and doing fun gigs. Of course, it will forever strive to stay dynamic, innovative and flexible with new ideas and thus do justice to its name- The Rubberband Project
