Modi and Shah done a mistake in the election campaign

Why BJP failed to understand the people of Maharashtra and Haryana?

OCT 25 (WTN) - The Assembly results in Maharashtra and Haryana have given a very big and strong message for the BJP. Assembly elections were a big challenge for the Modi Government, ruling at the Center as well as the Devendra Fadnavis Government of Maharashtra and the Manohar Lal Khattar Government of Haryana after a resounding victory in the Lok Sabha Elections.

Based on the election results, the BJP will be able to form a government in both these states in some way, but the assembly election results of Maharashtra and Haryana have challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah and forced to rethink.

Talking about Maharashtra, this time the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance has won 161 seats out of 288 seats in the state, and if there is no conflict between the two parties, once again Devendra Fadnavis is set to become the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

At the same time, BJP has emerged as the largest party in Haryana with 40 seats and some independent MLAs have announced to support to form a government. Manohar Lal Khattar is once again seen becoming the Chief Minister of Haryana till the time of writing the article.

This means that somehow the BJP in Maharashtra and Haryana are proving to be successful in saving and forming its government. But the voters of both the states have proved by giving fewer seats to BJP that BJP has been little unsuccessful in understanding the voters' minds.

As far as Maharashtra is concerned, BJP and Shiv Sena contested separately in 2014 assembly elections and BJP won 122 out of 288 seats in the state. But even after forging an alliance with Shiv Sena in this time in the assembly elections, BJP was able to win only 105 seats.

At the same time, the BJP has suffered even more in Haryana. In the 2014 Haryana Assembly elections, BJP won 47 of the 90 seats in the state. But this time, the voters of the state put BJP on only 40 seats. The loss of 7 seats compared to the last election has forced the BJP to form a government in Haryana with the support of independents.

But in the Lok Sabha elections held only a few months ago, the people of Maharashtra and Haryana had openly supported BJP. In the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance won 41 of the 48 seats in Maharashtra, while the BJP won all 10 seats in Haryana.

So what has been the reason that voters in Maharashtra and Haryana neither accepted nor completely rejected BJP in Maharashtra and Haryana just a few months after the massive victory in the Lok Sabha elections?

In fact, first of all, BJP has faced an anti-incumbency wave in both these states. It is natural that during five years of power, the public is angry with the policies and working methods of the government. But along with the anti-incumbency wave, the BJP made huge mistakes during the election campaign in both these states, which gave a big jolt to BJP in these elections.

As you know, the BJP contested the Lok Sabha elections purely on the basis of nationalism. Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a big message to the people of the country about the decision of a surgical strike and air strike against terrorists in PoK, that his government will take strict steps against Pakistan and terrorists. The people benefiting from Prime Minister Modi's many schemes and his nationalist image supported the BJP openly in the Lok Sabha elections and the BJP could win 303 seats.

After a landslide victory in the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP fulfilled its years-old resolution and slacken Article 370 from the state of Jammu and Kashmir. This historic decision of the Modi Government was supported by the whole country. But Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah only focused on Pakistan and Article 370 during the Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly elections and almost completely ignored local issues, including other issues.

The people of Maharashtra and Haryana know that it is important to teach Pakistan and terrorists a lesson, while the majority of the people of both these states are also with the Modi Government on the decision of Article 370. But the people of both these states know that the BJP Government and the Prime Minister are at the Center for these works, and it is the responsibility of the Central Government and not the State Governments to take decisions on defense and foreign policy. If the BJP had talked about local issues including inflation, employment, economic slowdown before the people of Maharashtra and Haryana, then it could have done it in their favor by going closer to the voters.

But the strategy of BJP to contest assembly elections only and only on the issue of nationalism, that strategy could not be completely successful. The people of Maharashtra and Haryana are nationalists and they also want concrete action against Pakistan and terrorists.

But the public knows that there is a Central Government for these works, and during the election of the State Government, it is more important than discussing issues of Pakistan, terrorism and Article 370 to discuss local issues including inflation, recession and employment, and their solutions.

The people of Maharashtra and Haryana wanted to hear from Narendra Modi and Amit Shah about their views on inflation, recession, employment, and local issues and solutions to these problems, but BJP leaders almost forgot to mention these issues in the election campaign. And on this basis, it can be said that this is the biggest mistake made by the BJP in the election campaign.

Anyway, if everything remains true according to the BJP, then the BJP will be able to form a government by tying up with the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra. At the same time, in Haryana, the BJP will form the government with the support of independents. But the results of Maharashtra and Haryana have brought a lesson to the BJP on which issues should be contested at the time of assembly elections and which should be mentioned during the election campaign.

Elections are held in the Lok Sabha on the issue of nationalism and in which the people of the country have openly supported the BJP. But if the BJP now has to do better in the assembly elections of states like Jharkhand, Delhi, Bihar, and West Bengal, the BJP will have to change its campaign strategy. With the issue of nationalism, if Narendra Modi and Amit Shah will talk about inflation, recession, and employment, then they will be able to go closer to the people.
