Hackers selling debit and credit card leaked data for $ 100

Beware! Debit and credit card leaked data being sold online!

OCT 31 (WTN) - If you have a debit card and credit card then you need to be careful. We are saying this because about 1.2 million debit and credit card data of the country have been leaked. Not only this, the leaked data is being sold online. For your information, let us know that the Singapore-based IB security research team has unearthed a large database of credit and debit card details on the dark web.

For your information, let us know the details of these cards are being sold at the Dark Net market place named Joker’s Stash. Data dubbed as 'INDIA-MIX-NEW-01' are available in two versions; one track-1 and the other track-2. Explain that the Track-1 data contains only the card number, which is a common thing. But Track-2 data consists of complete details of the magnetic stripe on the back of the card, which contains all the information about the customer's profile and transactions.

According to the information received from the media, 98 per cent of the information that has been put on the hackers' website is from Indians. Not only this, only one bank has 18 per cent information in it. However, the name of this bank has not been revealed yet. According to the information, the data for each card is being sold for $ 100. It is feared that in addition to hacking, these data have also been stolen from skimmers in ATMs or POS.

According to the experts, since all these cards are not from only one bank, it can be considered a security failure on a very large level. For your information, let us know that a similar data breach took place in the year 2016 when about 32 lakh debit card details were breached. This included many other banks including SBI, Yes Bank and ICICI bank. Later these banks issued a second card to their customers. By the way, if you are thinking that this phenomenon of a data breach is happening only with Indian banks, then you think wrong. For your information, let us tell you that in February this year, there were reports of data theft of about 2 million American cards.

After the same incident of a data breach in 2016, India's central bank, RBI directed all banks to use EMV based chip cards instead of magnetic strip cards. However, according to the information, it is being said that the banks are still not fully following this RBI directive.

If you look at your debit card carefully, you will see an EMV chip in it. According to the RBI, the card of this chip is technically considered to be the most secure. Such a card will have a microprocessor chip and it is not possible to clone the card with the use of this chip. It is being said that a debit card based on this technology has been created to prevent ATM fraud.

The biggest advantage of a debit card with an EMV chip is that it is not possible to clone your card and tamper with it. For your information, let us tell you that many fraudsters used a scanner in an ATM machine to breach the card data of customers and deduct money from their accounts. However, now it is not possible to do this in a debit card with an EMV chip.
