IRDAI may take a big step to facilitate customers

NOV 04 (WTN) - As you know how complicated, difficult and lengthy the process of getting insurance of a vehicle after an accident is. In such a situation, to make the process of motor insurance claim settlement easier, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has proposed to increase the limit of self-assessment damage.

It is being said that if this happens, soon there will be no need to survey the motor insurance claims up to 75 thousand rupees. At the same time, it is being claimed that due to this, the time will be reduced for the insurance claim for the customers and this will also speed up their work.

For your information, let you know that for the present insurance of motor insurance above Rs 50,000 and other claims above Rs 1 lakh, it is necessary to take the services of insurance surveyors and loss assessors. You know that when the surveyor is appointed to assess the insurance claim, he is given thirty days to review the claim and submit the report. People complain that this delays the settlement of claims because the insurance company takes a decision only after reviewing the report.

After receiving complaints of delay in settlement and redress of claims, the recommendations of IRDAI may be accepted. If this happens, the customer can claim up to Rs 75 thousand for motor insurance and up to Rs 1.50 lakh in cases of non-motor insurance. For your information, let us know that the earlier two committees Malhotra Committee and Bhandari Committee also suggested in their reports to increase the limit of damage to the survey. These committees also suggested that the workforce within the insurance companies should be used to this extent of loss, as this would speed up the settlement of claims.

However, many insurance companies are also settling claims on the basis of the video. In this process, a video of the loss is sent to the insurance companies through the mobile phone on behalf of the customer. Apart from this, many insurance companies have also tied up with service centers to settle claims.

Apart from this, IRDAI has also simplified the process for licensing surveyors and loss assessors. IRDAI has proposed that any person registered as an existing license holder or trainee and who has passed the required examination will no longer be required to take any pre-licensing examination.

Clearly, the intention of IRDAI is to remove the hassles faced by people in insurance claims. By the way, if the need for the surveyor is eliminated for claiming up to a certain amount in the motor insurance claim settlement, then it will benefit the customers as well as the insurance companies.
