80 deaths due to Coronavirus in Madhya Pradesh so far

APRIL 23 (WTN) - MP was one of the last states to get the coronavirus, but when it finally hit the state, it took ominous proportions. Thanks largely to a bunch of callous people, the virus eventually entered MP and spread rapidly and the irresponsible behaviour and lack of caution in certain sectionsof the populace spiked it further.

The administration in Indore and Bhopal and other cities of the state had done their best to minimise the chances of any major impact of the contagion by taking pre-emptive measures like fogging, designating beds in hospitals, training and mobilising health workers, quarantining suspects and screening passengers at airports and to a large extent the measures were successful in the initial phase.

But once the Tabligi Jamat members entered the cities and quietly hid themselves within the community, the infection started spreading fast, even before people could be diagnosed. As patient numbers surged, it became more difficult to contain it and hospitals started getting flooded with new patients.

We have limited testing and quarantining facilities and recovery from Covid-19 takes time. As such locating and treating every patient and making extensive and exclusive isolation wards is a tough call for any government. The cases are bound to escalate, given the highly virulent strain of the virus. The only way is self-assessment and social distancing.

Unless people consciously do their bit to ward off the chances of infection, no government can hold them back for long or guide them through. It is a matter of conscience, practical wisdom and honesty. When these things are thrown to the winds, no society can survive in good health. The Covid-19 surge is only a reflection of that.
