COVID-19 virus can be weakened gradually due to continuous mutations: Dr. Manjunath

It may take time for the vaccin of the Coronavirus infection

MAY 18 (WTN) - Research is going on all over the world on the making of the vaccine and drug of the Coronavirus infection disease (COVID-19). But even after all the efforts, scientists have not been able to succeed so far. These days, questions are arising in everyone's mind that what is the reason that it is taking so long time to become a COVID-19 drug or vaccine.

According to Dr. Manjunath VM, HOD Professor of the Anatomy Department of People's College of Medical Science & Research Center, it takes a long time for the medicine or vaccine for any disease. The final clinical trial of any drug or vaccine consists of at least three stages of the trial. First of all, its pre-clinical trial is done on animals. After being successful here, its trial is done at different stages on people of different age groups.

At every stage of the trial, it is tested whether there is any side effect of the drug or vaccine and whether there is the production of an antibody to the antigen given during the trial. Only after this, the license to make medicine or vaccine is given. Also, it is seen later what are its long term effects.

According to Dr. Manjunath, the virus of COVID-19 is also a virus of the SARS and MARS family, and the RNA structure of COVID-19 virus changes like that of SARS and MARS viruses. But COVID-19 is spreading more dangerously than SARS because SARS used to affect the lower respiratory system (lung), and its symptoms are immediately apparent.

But in COVID-19, the upper system of the respiratory system is affected, and then the lower system. For this reason, the symptoms of the COVID-19 are seen late. And since this virus initially affects the upper respiratory system, the virus is spreading from person to person through sneezing, coughing, and so on.

According to Dr. Manjunath, like other viruses, COVID-19 virus is constantly changing its genetic structure. It means its mutation keeps happening, and it has changed its structure about 200 times till now. Like other viruses, the virus of COVID-19 will gradually weaken after a period of time after mutation, or it may become even more dangerous.
