Corona boosts business of quacks

Monday - June 8, 2020 10:58 am , Category : WTN SPECIAL

WTN- Quacks are rapidly making inroads in the hinterlands and there are no police or administrative checks to stem the rot. Sporadic raids are made but they are far and few between, which is inadequate to break the chains and nexuses that abet their nefarious activities.

A recent story was reported from Jhabua district where several quacks have been found in operation, jeopardising the lives of the gullible tribal community members by their wrong treatments. There are several tribal-dominated districts and villages in the MP-CG region where people are dependent on these quacks for treatment and hence risk their lives.

There is no way to tell the real from the fake and thus anyone can fall prey to the designs of the quacks. It is reported that several quacks have opened nursing homes and are running them under the very nose of the administration. Many of these infirmaries are short of facilities and hygiene and protocol are skipped. When there are occasional raids the quacks go into hiding and surface again when the dust settles.

There are several quacks who have large stores of medicines which they randomly distribute/prescribe to their patients and make easy money, without thinking of the implications. Many of these drugs are banned drugs or are supposed to be used with caution, under prescription from an authorised MBBS medical practitioner. At the time of COVID-19, when other infections and ailments are in comparable neglect, these quacks are taking those up and making big money.

The administration needs to intensify its vigil and take steps through more frequent raids and stringent action so that this unethical and illegal business comes to an end. - Window To News
