The problem of unemployment increase due to the Corona crisis, but millions of jobs saved due to work from home

SEP 18 (WTN) - As you may know, a long-term lockdown was imposed throughout the country to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus infection disease (COVID-19). Naturally, due to the long lockdown, economic activities in the country were curbed, while the closure of mills, factories, and offices, etc. caused a major setback to the country's economy. For your information, let you know that in the first quarter of the current financial year 2020-21, the country's GDP has seen a huge decline of 23.9%.

Here, not only the country's GDP, but the jobs have also been facing a great crisis in the Corona period. Let's know that according to a report by CMIE (Center for Monitoring Indian Economy), about 66 lakh people are estimated to be unemployed in the entire country during the month of May to August. However, earlier in April, the CMIE estimated that around 1.21 crore people could lose their jobs due to the lockdown and the Corona crisis. But, out of these, about 65 lakh people got their jobs back by August. However, let's know that the self-employed people are not included in the CMIE report.

According to the CMIE data, during the months of May to August, about 50 lakh industrial workers were fired for some reason or the other. According to the data, the employment of industrial workers has decreased by about 26 percent in the year 2020 as compared to 2019. Not only this, such professionals, including engineers, teachers, and doctors, also lost their jobs during this period. According to CMIE, the employment rate of professionals has fallen to the lowest level since 2016 due to the Corona crisis.

Actually, a lot of employees could have lost their jobs due to the lockdown and the Corona crisis, but millions of people did work from home, which saved their jobs. According to the CMIE report, the lockdown and subsequent employment crisis have not had much impact on the jobs of clerical employees type jobs because office clerks, BPO workers, and data entry operators, etc. have saved their Jobs by adopting the work from home mode.

Regarding employment in the lockdown and the Corona crisis, CMIE reported that most of the employed people are software engineers, doctors, teachers, and people working in the private sector. According to CMIE, in the last year 2019, the number of such professionals working in the period of May-August was around 1.88 crore. However, due to the lockdown and the Corona crisis this year, the number of such professionals, who were working during the May-August time period, has come down to 1.22 crore. According to the data, this is the lowest rate of employment of such professionals after the year 2016.

Anyway, the Coronavirus epidemic is a formidable problem that almost every country has to face. The horrors of the Coronavirus infection epidemic can be gauged from the fact that by the time of writing this article, around 9,50,625 people have died, and 3,03,56,725 people have been infected due to the Coronavirus infection disease. Naturally, a lockdown was necessary to protect people from the Coronavirus infection.

At the same time, due to the lockdown, it was natural for the economic activities to be stopped and people to lose their jobs. But, while the lockdown has now fully opened, economic activity has picked up. So, it is to be hoped that soon the employment opportunities will arise in the country, and unemployment will come down considerably.
