Lets celebrate the Festival of prosperity: Dhanteras
One of the most auspicious festival celebrated by all the Hindus worldwide is known as Dhanteras, the festival of wealth and prosperity. The festival falls on the thirteenth lunar day of the dark fortnight in the month of Karthik which is between October to November.
Basically Dhanteras are two different words combined together where Dhan means wealth and teras means the 13th date. On this day devotees worship Goddess Laksmi also known as goddess of wealth with a motive to bring wellbeing and prosperity in life.
In the evening, lamp is lilted and Dhan Lakshmi is welcomed to the house. The event starts with the Aarti of the Godess and some renowned Bhajans and keertan are sung followed by the Prasad offered to her which can be sweets and fruits.
With Goddess laksmi Lord Kubar is also worshipped on this day as the combined Aarti of both the gods can result in doubling the benefits of prayers.
There is a custom of buying new things during the five days of Diwali which symbolize the welcoming of Lakshmi. On this day, you will not see any of the markets empty as most of the crowd rush to market and purchases jewelry, utensils to venerate the occasion.
The festival is celebrated with much craze as people wear new clothes and decorate their houses with rangoli and lit the lamps to make the night more brightful and colorful.-WTN
