Unfounded fear of people
Our culture like any other cultures have many beliefs and superstitions. Most of us are no doubt, superstitious. We were often told by our grandmother and parents in our childhood not to look at broken or cracked mirrors because it will revert in something bad to us. Most of the time we don’t think about it. But it’s worth asking: why do people have faith in such practices.
Superstition is something which has many explanations. Some of them are insecurity, jealousy predictability for future. It seems that belief in clairvoyance is one way that people can ‘trick’ themselves to feeling in control on situations they have no control over”, said, Dr Vinay Mishra, Psychologist.
Time has changed, the present generation does not believe in irrationality, but, still there are lot of people who are still in the captivity of these baba’s and tantriks, who are exploiting their faith and conning them from their tricks.
“I don’t want my daughters to follow my superstitious beliefs which have been instilled into me since childhood. I never warned them about the cat crossing the path or looking at the cracked mirror or seeing someone sweeping the floor with a broom, said, Manoj Diwakar, local resident.
On the other part, there are people like Rajshiri, who desperately follows superstition and also forces her children to practice these false belief,“ My ketu dasha was not right so I visited to baba and he gave me taweez which helped me in handling my family disputes and solved all my financial problems”, said, Saima Razi.
The popular tradition of superstition and black magic are practiced not just among the uneducated or illiterate people living in rural areas. Such irrational practices are common among educated urban folks also and highly practiced in the parts of west Bengal and Assam.
“I am just the companion and friend of these poor people, and try to help them out with all the little knowledge I had, which is gifted to me by god”, said Local Baba, He also added, I don’t charge money for any activity. It’s the blessings of people and mercy of god. I just give them holy water and they immediately get relief”.
Though superstitions have some interesting background stories and have a cause and effect relation on those who believe in them, but, still it all depends on the matter of control. People want to have control over the happenings in their lives. So, they believe in many strange ideas to gain even an illusory sense of control. WTN
