Narendra Modi: The first image of a soldier may be that of a uniformed person with weapons
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated a war memorial in Bhopal which took more than six years to build amid a war of words between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government at the Centre and the opposition over the Indian Army’s surgical strike.
He addressed an ex-servicemen’s gathering called ‘Shaurya Samman Sabha’ and then inaugurated the Shourya Smarak, built by the state government where he praised the armed forces and said that “Army doesn’t speak, but it acts as he addressed ex-servicemen in Bhopal.”
The Prime Minister said the Indian Army may not be the strongest army in the world, but on the parameters of humanity, discipline, conduct and behaviour with civilians, the Indian Army is certainly on the top.-Agency.
“The first image of a soldier may be that of a uniformed person with bloodshot eyes, carrying weapons and looking for enemies, but the same soldier has a very human face too,” Modi said at the inauguration of ‘Shaurya Smarak’ — a war memorial dedicated to the soldiers of India.
He further talked about the Kashmir issue where the people hate Indian forces and throw stones on them saying, “In Kashmir, our soldiers rescued and provided humanitarian aid to thousands of people without giving a thought that these are the same people who throw stones at the Indian forces,” he said. “Sometimes these stones can be fatal. But despite that, our soldiers did not go into who did what to them in the past. They just saved the lives of their fellow countrymen.”
The key themes of the discussion were Kashmir issue, development of Bhopal and obviously the army of India. WTN
