1.75 cm rare growth removed from vocal cord at People’s Hospital
Bhopal (Window To News Network) : 35-year-old Rampal Singh (name changed), a resident of old Bhopal, was suffering from an irritant throat and hoarse voice for the past several months. He finally approached the ENT department of People’s College of Medical Sciences & RC , Bhopal and met Associate Professor Dr Sadat Qureshi.
ENT surgeons at Peoples College of Medical Science and Research Centre successfully removed a large polyp from vocal cords of a patient suffering from hoarseness of voice. This specialised surgery was performed by Dr Sadat Qureshi and Dr Shalini Jadia of ENT department and anaesthetist support was provided by Dr Anupam Pandey and Dr Vaishali.
Vocal polyps are small outgrowth from one or both vocal cords, they vary in shape and size. According to Dr Qureshi, Vocal polyps are mostly small in size usually less than 0.5 cm, but the polyp which was removed was about 1.75 cms which is huge when compared to area involved. This polyp was removed by a procedure called as microlaryncoscopy, which is done with the help of a special endoscope. The patient’s voice has improved dramatically after this surgery. Such specialised surgery are routinely performed at People’s Hospital for preservation of voice.
