A dream turned into reality

Sunday - February 21, 2016 11:31 am , Category : WTN SPECIAL

I am penning down my thoughts with revived hope.

For a common man like me this hope is a longstanding dream of mine and many others seeing the light of day. This optimism been given by a meticulously planned mission being run by a Private University of Madhya Pradesh.

When I learnt about Mission Thousand Research Plan (TRP) successfully achieved by People’s University of Bhopal, I realized education institutes can pursue dreams for the betterment of this country, provided, they desire.

This is a well taken and appreciable step taken by a private university of the country.

Research is a word which encompasses the world in whole. Human beings from ancient times have been conducting research every day.

Dear members of Mission TRP, for me and thousands of other common man research is a complicated and highly technical field. It requires lots of academics, patience and brain storming.

It may be hard for me to understand the complexities but I know few basic things about research.

From ancient times sometimes research became a necessity for survival, sometimes it was done with a purpose, sometimes for attaining name and fame, sometimes for finding the impossible but whatever be the purpose research has always given a ray of hope to humans.

Had it not been the research in the medical science the world would have been wiped out by epidemics of plague. Plague also known as “black death” claimed millions of lives of people in Europe during the Middle Ages.

Though still plague has not gone away for all and less than 2000 cases are reported to the World Health Organisation every year, but medical research came as boon for the World.

I still remember that as a kid I had developed a fear for polio. I had seen few men and women limping struck by this sickness. I was afraid very afraid imagining what would happen to me if I too became a victim to this disease. But the medical research had found a vaccine against polio.

A common man like me is indeed grateful to the medical researchers for inventing and developing these “Do Boond Zindagi Ki” (Two Drops of Life) and now polio has been eradicated from my country.

Research by University which runs a number of medical institutions is indeed a novel step. It not only helps in improving education standards, education practices but also help in developing the personalities of students who are the researchers.

I have always given a serious thought why the education institutes overlook the importance of research. How can institutes of this country not consider research a part of nation building exercise?

Despite being a common man I understand that this country needs more and more research based education. But there is something I feel and demand from the faculties of the education institutes.

The academia especially the teaching faculties should not consider research as a way to continue with their job or just a method to complete their tenures and remain employed. Same holds for the students and researchers too. Please do not do research for the sake of getting degrees.

It is your pedagogical responsibility and we thousands of common man look up to you for excellence and improvement of this country.

Make research a ground to develop new insight about education, process of learning, and nation building.
