WhatsApp exchanges stay completely personal with new security tech

Wednesday - April 6, 2016 10:31 am , Category : WTN SPECIAL

WhatsApp recently floated its latest security technology and introduced end-to-end encryption to all its messages. This means that the messages exchanged between two devices cannot be intercepted while travelling.  This has led to a strong public disagreement between technology companies and governments. In Britain, the authorities fear this could weaken the security and opposed banning such technologies.

Expressing its views, WhatsApp in its blog post said that the new feature has been introduced to secure the user’s data and communication. “From now on, with this latest version all calls, messages, photos, videos, files and voice messages will be end-to-end encrypted. No one can see inside that message. Not cybercriminals. Not hackers. Not oppressive regimes. Not even us. End-to-end encryption helps make communication via WhatsApp private – sort of like a face-to-face conversation.”

However, the app will continue to access certain data and behavioural patterns of its users. In the blog it further said, “Recently there has been a lot of discussion about encrypted services and the work of law enforcement,” it wrote. “While we recognize the important work of law enforcement in keeping people safe, efforts to weaken encryption risk exposing people’s information to abuse from cybercriminals, hackers, and rogue states.”-Window To News
