Hangover? Get back your body rhythm
After a hectic week on the office desk and executing all your family duties, you deserve a crazy Saturday night bash. It is fine if you overindulge as long as you can carry it gracefully and without throwing up on the floor. But if you can’t and suffer from a foggy and pounding head, aching body and queasiness the next morning follow these remedies by WTN to get back your body rhythm.
Stay hydrated
First understand that heavy drinking causes dehydration making you sick the following morning. Hence, drinking lots of water or other non-alcoholic drinks between your alcohol trips can slow down the process and held you stay hydrated.
Some sugar & ginger trick
Don’t forget to take a few sugar bites while drinking. The fructose in it reduces the risk of hangover. Remember there is no point in taking it before drinks as fructose metabolises quickly. Similarly, nibbling on a piece of ginger will fight nausea and vomiting by aiding digestion of alcohol. It also soothes the stomach.
Potassium in bananas & honey
Bananas are rich in potassium which helps fight hangover. Heavy drinking drains the potassium from your body. Hence, swallowing a banana before sleeping will also help your body restore potassium, calm your stomach and help you recover faster. Just like sugar, honey has fructose which metabolises the alcohol and restores potassium. Just apply it on a piece of bread or toast and gulp it preferably several times a day.
Lemon/peppermint magic
Lemon assimilates alcohol, controls the blood sugar level and rebalances the body. A glass of warm water with two spoonsfull of lemon juice will help you renew your energy. Also peppermint helps digestion, speeds up detoxification process and nausea. Chewing peppermint relaxes the intestines and has a substance that removes accumulated gas from the stomach and intestines.
Tomato wonders
Tomatoes have fructose, vitamins, minerals and enzymes in good quantities. These help you quickly overcome the after-effects of drinking.
Binge on carbs
Generous portions of carbs will deal with the alcohol and soak it up. This will take care of that queasiness as well and get you back to sanity. Toast and eggs will help you recover your lost nutrients.

Caffeine
Caffeine dehydrates for habitual coffee persons, it is desirable to first try taking it in very small quantity and wait for sometime. Caffeine has a tendency to up the blood pressure by narrowing the blood vessels and hence, worsen the condition.
Sauna
If you’re already somewhat dehydrated, excessive sweating can be harmful, and even deadly. Researchers from the Finnish State Alcohol Company’s Research Laboratories, in Helsinki, warn that sauna bathing while hung over carries “real health risks,” including dangerous drops in blood pressure and abnormal heart rhythms.

· Drink slowly
· Never consume alcohol on an empty stomach
· Grease your intestines with a spoonful of olive oil, cheese or cottage cheese
· Prefer clear alcohol, such as white wine, vodka, gin etc
· Avoid smoking as it can irritate stomach
· Avoid carbonated drinks with alcohol it speeds up alcohol absorption
