For Rapunzel locks – detox
Desire Rapunzel hair? Detox. Yes it is almost like rehabilitating your hair for a shinier and healthier look. And do it at home
Our hair undergoes a lot of damage and neglect as we ruthlessly style, apply highlights and colour them often. Detoxing your hair could be time taking depending on how much strain it has undergone. For severely damaged hair, the treatment could take about five to six months.
Get going…
First get your hair trimmed. Ideally it should be done every six months.
Baking soda & apple cider vinegar: Now, to a tablespoon of baking soda add very little water and mix well to make a paste. In another bowl put a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and mix with water. Apply baking soda mixture to your hair and rinse it off with tap water and then with ACV. For added lusture and deep conditioning either add honey to the baking soda mixture or after applying ACV. Allow it to remain for a few minutes and rinse. This is for regular use
Another method requires applying half cup of baking soda mixed with three cups of hot water on wet hair and massaging it on the scalp. Leave it on for 30 minutes and rinse with tap water.
Egg, olive: Together blend and egg with two tablespoons of olive, avocado, sunflower, or almond oil, 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice, and 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. Apply it on wet hair and gently massage it on the scalp and hair ends. Wash it off after five minutes.
Warm oil: In a glass bowl, take ¼ cup of olive, avocado, sunflower or almond oil and a tablespoon of conditioner and mix them well. Take another broad pan and heat water in it and then place the glass bowl in it to make it warm. Meanwhile, wet your hair and apply the mixture to it and leave it for 30 minutes. Now, rinse it off.
Essential oils & apple cider vinegar: Mix your favourite essential oil (jasmine, peppermint, lavender etc) with ACV and apply it on wet hair. With the help of wide tooth comb evenly apply it through the hair.
Lemon/ chamomile tea: Squeeze a lemon and add it to a cup of water and pour it in a spray. Use it on damp hair and comb. It is important to use fresh lemon juice. You may replace lemon juice with chamomile tea. When done use the baking soda and apple cider vinegar to cleanse hair.
Bentonite, aloe & apple cider vinegar: Mix bentonite clay and aloe vera in equal amounts in ACVto make a paste. Apply it on hair and leave it for 30 minutes. Now rinse with a cup of vinegar and leave it for another 3-4 minutes and shampoo.
Avoid these
· Avoid chemicals & shampoos: Chemicals and chemical based hair products do more harm than good. Hence, it is advised to minimise and better quit their use. Do not use colour either as it deposits toxins back on the strands.
· Avoid styling & heat: Blow drying, ironing or curling and styling hurts hair. But if you still have to do it, lessen the number of times and use loads of argan oil for protection. Also, allow your hair to dry naturally after every wash and then either make a pony tail or the regular bun.
Also try
Coconut oil: Coconut oil aids digestion and boosts immune system. A tablespoon of it every morning and evening with iced lemon water or in tea boosts hair health.
Organic oils & natural emollients: These work while you sleep. Leaving it overnight and washing it off the following morning can give you amazing results. For better softness, use it twice a week.
What to expect during the process?
While the process is on, your hair could feel dry, rough, brittle. But that is a natural process. During this period, the hair and scalp gets rid of toxic chemicals piled up all these years and starts to readjust and regulate oil production cycle.
If you have an oily scalp and happen to use sulfate based shampoo, the scalp will have to go through the detox process again and re-experience excess oil formation.
