Know what food suits your blood group
The concept ‘blood group diet’ has been there since long, but never had many followers. This was until 20 years ago when naturopath Dr Peter D’Amado came up with the NY Times bestseller, Eat right for your type. Since then a lot has been said and is still being explored in this regard.
The theory behind blood group diet is that people with different blood groups process food differently. Though the concept is still being worked upon, it is being accepted by more and more people now. WTN tells you how the experts co-relate the two…
Experts believe that each blood group contains genetic traits (including food habits) of our ancestors. They state that there are many lectins (abundant and diverse proteins) in the diet that target different ABO blood types and that consuming wrong types of lectins could clump the red blood cells. Let’s find out more about the blood groups and recommended diets that suit them best
Diet for…
Type A-the agrarian or meat-free diet people
Experts claim that this type of blood group originated when humans settled in agrarian colonies. It improved the use of nutrients from carbohydrate-based foods. They are primarily people with sensitive immune system, prone to heart ailments, cancer etc. Such people must stick to vegetarian diet primarily.
Type B- the nomads
This blood type is said to have evolved in nomadic tribes who have a strong digestive and immune system. While green vegetables, eggs, low-fat dairy products are a recommended, they must avoid food like chicken, pork, corn, lentils, wheat, tomatoes etc. though they are on high allergy threshold, they are prone to autoimmune disorders like fatigue, lupus and multiple sclerosis.
Type AB-the enigma
People with AB blood group have very little health issues and the traits, benefits and intolerances of both A and B blood groups. Experts say, it is the most recent evolution blood group and is the most complex biologically. They tend to have low stomach acid, and could suffer from anemia, heart diseases, cancer, diabetes etc. Hence, they must avoid kidney beans, corn, beef, chicken and have generous portions of seafood, tofu, eggs, dairy and grains.
Type O-the hunters
People under type O group are said to have inherited the ancestral blood group. They aptly respond to the stress just like in the hunter-gatherer period. They are recommended high animal-protein and low carbohydrates, certain fruits and vegetables, but must avoid grains, legumes, breads, potatoes and dairy products. They are known to be environmentally intolerant and generally complain of asthma, hay fever, other allergies, stomach ulcers, inflammations like arthritis, but are at low risk of heart ailments.
