Calm prostate glands with home remedies
Those annoying and painful trips to the bathroom at night –thanks to the obstructed prostrate glands- could actually interfere with your million dollar sleep time.
The prostate glands are present in men only. As they age, their glands grow too. Gradually it squeezes the urethra (tube) from where the urine travels. The pressure from the enlarged prostate affects bladder control. If left unattended, it could lead to dangerous complications, including bladder and kidney infections.
Risks & complications
Pelvic floor muscle injury: The pelvic floor muscle could suffer injury if there is regular strain in the pelvic or abdominal muscles to start urination. The injuries could be like hemorrhoids, or even fainting during or after urination (micturition syncope). If the pressure or blockage increases, there are chances of urinary tract infection or urinary retention to occur.
UTI factors: Retaining the urine increases the risk of urinary tract infection. There could be pain during urination along with temperature or potentially cloudy or bloody urine.
Bladder stones: Retaining urine often results in bladder stones when it gets concentrated and minerals crystallise. These can be very painful and block urine. If the stone is small, it may pass out through the urethra if enough water is consumed.
Home remedies
Pumpkin seeds: These are diuretic and loaded with zinc that helps repair and strengthen immune system. Remove the shells and have them plain. Also, making a decoction of it by first boiling it and allowing it to cool and straining it works wonders
Watermelon: Watermelon flushes out the system and gives relief from prostate problems. Also, the seeds can be boiled and strained before drinking. A course of two weeks is beneficial.
Corn silk tea: It helps relax the urinary muscles and lining. Boil fresh corn silks for about 15 minutes and allow it to cool. The silk can be dried and kept and used in months when fresh corn is not available. The results will be visible within three weeks if three cups are consumed daily. You may also try adding 15-20 drops of corn silk extract to a cup of water and drink it a few times a day.
Apple cider vinegar: Its astringent qualities shrink the swollen glands. It also helps shed the extra fab and prevents complications like UTIs. Drinking 1-2 tbs of unfiltered ACV and honey in a glass of lukewarm water twice a day is ideal. You may also try soaking in a bathtub filled with water and a cup of ACV every day for 10-15 minutes.
More water, less alcohol: Ensure you hydrate yourself with the required eight glasses of water every day and reduce alcohol and caffeine intake, especially after dinner or 2 hours before bedtime. Beer ups the prolactin levels in the body which leads to enlargement of prostates.

This good oil is found in abundance in tuna, mackerel, salmon etc. Also, soy-based foods help deal with prostate problems as they have phytoestrogens. phytoestrogens limit the growth of blood capillaries that form around tumors of the prostate. Similarly, include tomatoes in your diet as it is known to reduce the risk of prostate cancer and problems by half. They are rich in lycopene, lowers specific antigen, and bladder pressure. On the other hand, check the fatty and read meat consumption and ensure you do not go overboard with it. Switch on to moderate use of polyunsaturated fat and enjoy vegetables that are rich in vitamin C and zinc like oysters, crab, fortified breakfast cereals, beans, cashews yogurt, papaya, strawberries, pineapple, kiwifruit, cantaloupe, and raspberries.
