Obesity is a condition in which excess fat accumulates on the body and the body mass index (BMI) is higher than 29.9. According to ayurveda, obesity is considered as “Medaroga” (meda dhatu-which is one of the seven constituent dhatus of the body according to ayurveda) and is correlated to kapha dosha. In other words, all those factors that increase kapha dosha are also responsible for increasing ‘meda’ in the body in disturbed form.
Causes
· Consuming more calorie than needed
· Sleeping during the day time
· Consuming kapha elevating foods like high fat diet, sweets, aerated drinks etc
· Sedentary lifestyle
Symptoms
· Feeling thirsty
· Heavy sweating
· Pain in back & joints
· Breathlessness or fatigue
Treatment
Opt for multi grain flour
Avoid sweets and white flour (maida)
Take dinner at least 2-3 hrs before bedtime
Include salads and green vegetables in meals
Prefer lukewarm water over cold after meals
Consume lukewarm water with lemon on empty stomach
Ensure regular exercises like, walking, gymming, aerobics etc
Practice yoga – katichkrasana, surya namaskar, kapaalbhaati etc.
Practice panchkarma treatments regularly like udwartana and swedana
