IBM joins hands with top universities to conduct Industry Oriented B.Tech (CS/IT)

Despite the proliferation of Engineering Colleges in India since last decade, the need for competent and skilled engineers continues due to gap in academic curriculum and industry requirements. This gap is evident in the dynamic and ever changing field of Computer Science and Information Technology.
According to NASSCOM Strategic Review 2015 “ IT Industry revenues (including e-commerce) was estimated to grow by 13% in FY2015, to aggregate USD 146 Billion ; IT Industry is adding more than 2,30,000 employees in FY15; focus on skill over scale, embedded non-linearity – 7% employee growth corresponding to 13% revenue growth”. This was also the reason that most of IIT-JEE toppers preferred the branches of CS/IT in 2015 and the same is expected in 2016.
Global IT giant IBM has collaborated with People’s University, Bhopal and also other universities like UPES, Galgotias University, Hindustan University, Manav Rachna University, to run 4 year B.Tech (CS/IT) with specialization in Cloud Computing & Virtualization Technologies / Business Analytics & Optimization / Open Source and Open Standards Technologies / Mainframe Technology / Cyber Security and Forensic Science and other fields. The basis of this collaborative programme is to make IBM a participant in academia and develop trained manpower not only for IBM but also for related industry so that the gap between demand and supply of competent graduates is fulfilled.
Mr Viqaruddin Surki from IBM –Bengaluru on his visit to People’s University, Bhopal categorically stated that the industry lacks manpower for Mainframe Technology and there is a huge demand for manpower in this technology in each quarter of the year, but the industry is not able to recruit fresh graduates from traditional B.Tech (CS/IT) programme as these graduates lack requisite skills and knowledge. This is the reason that B.Tech (CS/IT) in association with IBM has been initiated across various universities in India.
Mr Hari R of IBM during his earlier visit to People’s University had mentioned that the first batch of B.Tech (CS/IT) in association with IBM has successfully graduated with 100% placement across various organisations and were offered handsome packages during Campus Placements. Mr Hari also advocated that the future belongs to Cloud Computing, Business Analytics , Cyber Security and Forensics Technologies. The industry is in huge demand of fresh B.Tech(CS/IT) students with much more knowledge and IT skills than what is being offered by conventional B.Tech (CS/IT) programme.
