Opportunity rarely knocks at door. An interview call is something that takes someone to threshold of a career. Stakes are high as fresh graduates are desperate to take the job, most individuals develop pressure internally- palms sweat, throat runs dry and heartbeat gets accelerated. It is a natural human tendency. The success in interview will eventually depend upon how best can one win over nervousness and perform the best in given situation. Therefore, confidence is the key element, which shall develop a foundation of success in an interview.

These days many organizations go through your profile at social networking sites like Facebook, Instagram ,Twitter and others before calling you for an interview. One has to be very careful with posts on social networking sites. All such posts that offend gender, cast, creed, and religion: that have political bias; that are highly controversial or use abusive language; pictures that shows you in poor character, should be removed from your profile before you apply for the job.

An individual appearing for interview should consider interview preparation from two aspects. First aspect being preparation about yourself and other one is preparation about the organization for which interview is being given. Both are equally important.

In order to prepare well about yourself, it is necessary to look for employment requirements and your own strength & weaknesses in respect to employment requirements. Your Curriculum Vitae (also called Resume) reaches the organization before you do. Therefore, one was to be meticulous while making CV.

Your CV should not be a document mentioning your name, address and qualification only. It should also contain your extracurricular activities, hobbies and your achievements. Extra-curricular activities and hobbies define your personality beyond academics.

Many people write career objective in CV. Take care while mentioning your career objective, if this does not match with employer, your chances of success are minimal.

Your job experience (if any) should be clearly highlighted. Make sure that your job responsibilities depict you as team player and performer even in small tasks.

Avoid giving photocopy of CV. Give original printout. Do not forget to sign. Do not write Mr. / Miss before your name.

Do not make your CV bulky and incoherent to understand. Your CV should not reveal all details that you want to tell. Mention brief points so that further details can be discussed during interview.

The first image that the candidate projects depend on the dress the candidate wears for the interview and other non-verbal clues. The interviewer makes many subconscious decisions based on the image that the candidate depicts while he enters the interview room. Apart from personality other parameters that are judged during the interview include economic status, social behavior, educational qualifications, trustworthiness, level of sophistication and probability of success in the job.

While preparing for organization/ company that has called you for interview, it is desirable to gather information regarding company’s product or services, market perception about company, present and past performance and history of growth. With this information, a candidate can answer the questions with confidence and also from position of strength.

It is pertinent to mention that interview is a two-way process. While the employer assesses the candidate for suitability, the candidate must also assess the employer for environment of organization and growth opportunities in future.
