Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile
Doctors are the most respected members of the society. A doctor can mean the difference between life and death. Before advent of modern medicine, life was short lived. Efforts of doctors has increased the life expectancy and improved well-being in society.
Being a doctor is the noblest profession with manifold challenges. Imagine how difficult and painful is for a doctor to tell the family that he could not save life of the patient. Just think, the quantum of mental stress that doctor goes through while amputating a body part or removing a tumor from a brain. Doctors are on call 24×7, they immediately rush to patients assistance even at midnight, whenever needed.
God gives life but doctor saves life, doctors should be considered second to god.
Today, the expectations of patients and their relatives are high. Patients pressure doctors for quicker relief, not understanding that the diseases may take time to get cured. Medicine is a science which has many probabilities and possibilities. Doctor’s diagnosis and cure at cannot produce the same result every time. There have been instances of public violence against doctors, despite the doctors may have done their best to treat the patient. Such incidents should be condemned by media and all sections of the society.
On the other hand, some people think that medical profession is no longer “the noble profession” . It has now become a business. There are isolated reports of malpractices, exaggerated expenses and unnecessary operations. Such doctors are negligible in numbers considering that total population of medical practitioners.
On July 1, Doctors Day was celebrated in entire India. In Bhopal, NGO “Srijan Jankalyan Shiksha Sewa Samiti” offered roses and thanked the medical practitioners for relentlessly serving the society. There are other instances wherein patients have offered flowers to doctors. In many schools and colleges, there were poster competitions and debates to felicitate and honour the contribution of doctors.
