South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Regional Training Program on Climate Change
Climate change impact on Agriculture and the Society has become a reality. For increased awareness and greater scientific cooperation among member countries of SAARC, the SAARC Agricultural Centre (SAC), Dhaka is taking initiatives in form of Regional Training Programs on the particular important issue. As a part of this initiative, the Indian Institute of Soil Science, Bhopal in collaboration with SAARC Agriculture Centre, Dhaka, Bangladesh is organizing a training program on the theme : Climate Change impact on Soil Carbon, Agriculture and Adaptation strategies, for Agricultural Researchers from different SAARC countries. This program is being sponsored by SAARC Agricultural Centre, Dhaka with the objective of sharing of ideas, commonalities and solutions among the researchers of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries.
The program was inaugurated today at the ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil Science, Nabibagh, Bhopal and is being held during 16-23 August, 2016. Dr. Anil Kumar Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Raj Mata Vijaye Raje Scindia Krishi Viswa Vidyalaya, Gwalior was the Chief Guest of the function. The function was also graced by Dr. S. M. Bokthiar, the Director of SAARC Agricultural Centre (SAC), Dhaka and the Dr. Tayan Raj Gurung, Senior Program Specialist of the SAC. Other dignitaries included Dr. S.K. Chaudhari, ADG, ICAR and Dr. Ashok K. Patra, Director of the Indian Institute of Soil Science.
The Regional training for the SAARC countries is unique of its kind in which common problems and solutions to the climate change impact is to be discussed. The program is being coordinated by a team of scientists of the Indian Institute of Soil Science, comprising of Dr. Sangeeta Lenka, Dr. Narendra Lenka, Dr. Jayant K. Saha and Dr. Ashok K.
