Education Is the Building Block of Any Nation: Varun Gandhi
Bhopal: The BJP MP and former General Secretary Varun Gandhi today highlighted the importance of education. He said that it is time to revolutionize education system, which will provide more jobs.
He said that education is the building block of any nation. And it is important that youth and education system gets connected which would create more job opportunities.
The BJP MP Varun Gandhi was speaking at a programme “ Vichar Nai Bharat Ke Liye” organised under the aegis of “Yuva Vimarsh 2016” at People’s University on Tuesday. Varun Gandhi highlighted various aspects of education and urged youths to come forward in nation building.
Taking a dig at the education situation of the country the BJP MP said that not a single education institute of the country ranks amongst the top 100 education institutes of the world.
He said, “We have 636 universities, 25938 colleges and almost 2000 poly-technique colleges but still we are facing shortage of skilled and trained persons”.
Referring to a survey conducted by an NGO he wondered that last year 50 percent students of 5th standard were not able to read text book of class 3rd. He added that 70 percent of class 3rd students were not able to do simple addition and subtraction of numeric figures.
He said that India spends only 3.9 percent of the GDP (one lakhs eighty thousand crore rupees) on education where as Japan spends a whopping 10 percent of its GDP (five lakh crores). It is important that we increase our GDP contribution to 6 percent for coming 10 to 25 years for the betterment of education.
Referring to schools Gandhi said that schools in India still miss the basic facilities like electricity and computer education. He added that brain drain is a serious problem for the country however the NRIs are contributing towards building of our economy.
Gandhi narrated a sad tale as how at Kanpur a vacancy was published for the post of cleaning and housekeeping position. The turnout of applicants was enormous. Lakhs of people applied and the applicants were over qualified for this position. “I witnessed same situation at Amroha district of UP”.
These facts show us a simple fact. The youth of the country are holding degrees but are not competent enough for jobs. Thus we should promote technical education and our economy also needs a shift from service to more of manufacturing oriented jobs, he said.
He predicted that by year 2040 we will have trained and professional youths who can cater the rising requirement across the globe which the other nations will not be able to cater in-house.

The fee structure also varies from Rs. 5000/- to Rs. 15 lakhs per year. These differences need to be removed. These are the reasons for difference in economic and social development.
He said that educational NPA is increasing which means students after getting degrees are not getting jobs and so are not able to pay their education loans. This is also a big cause of high suicide in India. Kota has seen lot of suicide due to this short come.
He gave example of Colombia and said that the education system of Colombia is impressive. He told that the government or administration issues a free coupon to the student so that they can seek education from where ever they want. Their budget for education is 25 percent of GDP in five years.
He said, “I have desire that we should also implement this kind of approach. If my daughter studies in the same school where a daughter of rickshaw man does I have no issues.
Gandhi criticized the policy of right to education where governments spend huge money however the outcome is negligible due to schools not at near distance. HE said we should provide free transport facilities to the kids.
Varun speaking to the students said that education should be skill oriented and that will help to fight unemployment. He gave example of Finland’s and Germany vocational education policies.
Addressing the gathering Varun Gandhi shared a memory of his grandmother. She left money for him and suggested to utilize that money for good.
He said that he utilized this money for the welfare women of his Lok Sabha area by providing them training of self skill in knitting and now these women are earning substantially good income. He motivated youth to take initative and group up for entrepreneurship building.
Gandhi said that corruption needs to be fought. RTI is a good instrument for fighting against corruption however it not 100 percent successful.
He lastly said that India this is our county and we should always think for nation building and progress of the nation.
