World Blood Donor Day: Gift drops of life to someone on this day

WTN- With the aim is to raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products, every year on June 14 celebrate as World Blood Donor Day. World Health Organization (WHO) and health communities around the world joins today to recall and motivate public for voluntarily blood donation and importance of every drop of blood for someone in need.  

Blood donation is the only way to make it available for anyone who is required direct blood transfusion or any of blood component like plasma, platelets etc. But during this Covid 19 pandemic since last year it was a huge challenge for all medical professionals to maintain the demand and availability ratio. Commendable efforts by all associated with this process during a time of medical crisis enhances the key role of well-organized, committed voluntary, non-remunerated blood donors in ensuring a safe and sufficient blood supply during normal and emergency times.

“Give blood and keep the world beating”, is the slogan WHO has released for the occasion to highlight the extraordinary service rendered by the blood donors world over.

Besides several myths over blood donation there are much more proved benefits associated with health of blood donation. Donating blood reduces risk of heart attack as quite often high levels of iron in the blood constrict the blood vessels and aggravate the risk of a heart attack. Regular blood donation also reduces chances of cancer in certain cases where excessive iron deposits in the blood can also increase the risks of different types of cancer especially blood cancer.

Blood donation also Boosts Immunity which is highly necessary to prevent several ongoing infections and during this pandemic a good immune system of our body may reduces the chances of severe illness.
