Vijay Diwas

Saturday - December 16, 2023 2:58 pm , Category : WTN SPECIAL

Vijay Diwas is celebrated on December 16th every year which marks the historic victory of India over Pakistan in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. This day holds significant importance as it led to the creation of Bangladesh and showcased the bravery and determination of the Indian armed forces.

The roots of the conflict were by the Bengali-speaking population in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) by the west Pakistani government. The oppressive policies led to widespread discontent and ultimately a demand for independence. The situation escalated and on December 3rd, 1971, Pakistan launched defensive airstrikes on Indian airbases, initiating a full-scale war.

India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Chief of Army Staff General Sam Manekshaw, responded with a well-coordinated and determined military campaign. The Indian armed forces displayed exceptional courage and strategic brilliance in the face of adversity. The eastern front witnessed a series of fast and successful military operations, culminating in the surrender of Pakistani forces in East Pakistan on December 16th, 1971. This marked the creation of the independent nation of Bangladesh, ending years of oppression and injustice.

Vijay Diwas is an occasion to remember and honor the brave soldiers who fought fearlessly during the war. Their sacrifices, resilience and commitment to the cause played a pivotal role in shaping the course of history. The war saw numerous acts of heroism with soldiers displaying unwavering dedication to their duty.
