President Kovind unveils statue of Jhalkari Bai

Bhopal: President Ramnath Kovind unveiled the statue of Jhalkari Bai, Rani Lakshmi Bai’s assistant at Guru Tegh Bahadur Complex. Among those present on the occasion were Governor Om Prakash Kohli, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, First lady Smt. Savita Kovind, Urban Development Minister Smt. Maya Singh, BMC Mayor Alok Sharma, Smt. Sadhana Singh Chouhan, other public representatives and senior officers.
It may be noted that Jhalkari Bai was born in a poor Kori family. She joined Rani Lakshmi Bai’s army like an ordinary soldier. Later she was made Rani Lakshmi Bai’s special advisor. Jhalkari Bai was a participant in all major decisions of Rani Lakshmi Bai and laid down her life during the freedom struggle as her assistant.-Windowtonews
