Odisha's "Jautuka Pedi" is Exhibit of the Month of March

Bhopal: Under the popular museum series 'Exhibit of the Month' of Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya, a traditional object is displayed in the appearance for a whole month. The exhibit for the month of March, 2018 is"Jautuka Pedi" (A Dowry box).   Shri. Dilip Singh, ITS (Department of Telecommunications, Bhopal) inaugurated Exhibit of the month at Veethi Sankul indoor exhibition building. On this occasion Prof. Sarit Kumar Chaudhuri, (Director, IGRMS) was also present. This exhibit of the month has been collected and compiled by Smt. P. Anuradha (Museum Associate).

This exhibit a kind of decorative dowry box is used by the folk communities of Odisha in marriage ceremony. It is similar to a temple like structure. The lower part is square like box and the upper part lid is in conical shape with flat top. It is available in set of either three or five in nos. of different sizes. It is decorated with painting of incidents from Krishna life, mythology of Jagannath, scenes from Ramayana, Ganesh, images of musician and dancer, animals, plants and other floral motifs.

The present specimen is acquired by IGRMS made by Chitrakaar Shri Ashok Maharana of Raghurajpur (Odisha), during the workshop Chitra Gatha organised in 2015 at the campus.-Window To News
