Bhopal: In order to commemorate the International Day of the World's Indigenous People, IGRMS organised a multifaceted programme entitled Van Asmita. Firstly, a special exhibition on Indigenous Tribes of India entitled Aadi-Jan was inaugurated by Prof. Tamo Mibang, former Vice Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh, Prof. S.N. Chaudhari, Rajiv Gandhi Chair, Barkatullah University, Bhopal and Prof. Sarit Kumar Chaudhuri, Director, Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya.
After this, Prof. Tamo Mibang, former Vice Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh delivered a Museum Popular lecture on the title 'Rights of Indigenous Peoples: with Special Reference to north-east India'. In his lecture Prof. Mibang told that the plight of tribal people of India can be improved by themselves by developing their own work culture and hard working. Education is the main mantra of socio-economic transformation of tribal people of India. At the same time planners of tribal development should plan well to implement the developmental programme in tune with the need of the people. Prof. S.N. Chaudhari chaired this session and told that education for the tribes should be devised in such a way that it should address their local knowledge system and that too in their local language. Following this a book titled 'Tribal Livelihood' edited by Prof. S.N. Chaudhari, Rajiv Gandhi Chair, Barkatullah University, Bhopal and Prof. Sarit Kumar Chaudhuri, Director, IGRMS, Bhopal was released. This book is the outcome of the seminar organized by Rajiv Gandhi chair, Barkatullah University, Bhopal in collaboration with IGRMS, Bhopal in December 2016. The last programme to commemorate the evening was Gunjar, a programme of Performing art presentation of the indigenous musical instrument Bana of Pardhan tribe of Madhya Pradesh and Chakri and kalbeliya dance of rajasthan.-Window To News
