Varpu - Exhibit of the Month of September

Bhopal: Under the museum series 'Exhibit of the Month' of Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya, a traditional object is displayed in the appearance for a whole month. The exhibit for the month of September -"Varpu" A Metal Vessel from Kerala, is on display in the indoor exhibition building – Veethi Sankul. The 'exhibit of the month' has been inaugurated by Ashokan, Chairman, United Malayalee Association, Bhopal. Prof Sarit Kumar Chaudhuri, Director, IGRMS, Dilip Singh (Joint Director, IGRMS),  Anil, Vice Chairman & S.R. Pillai, Secretary, United Malayalee Association, Bhopal and renowned people present on this occasion. This exhibit of the month' has been compiled by Rakesh Bhatt, Assistant Keeper. He said that "The aim of the museum is to connect communities, by which the continuity of culture will continue."

In the year 1991, during the field work collected object Varpu is a traditional bronze vessel of Kerala and it has manifold uses. The contain handles on either side for easy lifting. This circular, wide, shallow and thick vessel occupies a prominent in the socio-cultural sphere and religious practices of the people of this region. The Moosaris are of six categories and the Kammalas are the traditional metal smiths of Kerala. They trace their origin to Vishawakarma, the deity of all craftsmanship. Varpu is made by means of the lost wax process of casting. Commonly used for serving foods, Varpu is also applicable for small scale cooking. In Hindu Puja, Varpu is widely used in temples for Abhisheka purposes, decorative purposes. By filling withwater, floats of flowers are prepared for grand welcome ceremonies at the entrance and also used as an interior décor element.

Under the activities of Official Language in Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya organised 'Unicode Typing Test', where employees participated enthusiastically. The programme was coordinated by Mohd. Rehan and Ravindra Gupta. On this occasion they said "Unicode enables a single software product or a single website to be targeted across multiple platforms, languages and countries without re-engineering. It allows data to be transported through many different systems without error".

This competition was organized in two category- clerical and non-clerical. In the clerical category, 07 employees and non-clerical category 13 employees participated. In this competition, the paragraph given in Hindi typed through Unicode.-Window To News
