City’s duo starts innovative efforts for trashed Pooja Samagri

Nagar Nigam Bhopal, Startups and Incubation Centres take up Bhopal Compost Collection Effort

Essential Pooja things are like garbage after completion of festivals and treated as garbage. Most of the people would view the pile of flowers, fruits, rotting prasadis and more floating away under the hot sun in our beautiful lakes post the visarjans (Disposal in water bodies).

But to the city’s young duo Ameeya and Priyanka, who are standing atop this mini-mountain of bio-waste collecting them to be shipped to a compost plant, it represents something else entirely.

Opportunity and redemption – for them and for our community it’s a big opportunity to promote environmental preservation and finding redemption by saving it.

With the active help of Nagar Nigam Bhopal, most of the startup incubators, startups of Bhopal and especially volunteer support from the people of Bhopal and last but not the least the Naviks (helmsman). This city duo is taking a very different approach to the waste management aspect of things especially the waste generated from the auspicious ceremonies like ‘Ganesh Visarjan’.

“None of us would like to see our sacred Pooja Samagri turning into stinking disgusting waste”, said Ameya Waigankar, one of the brains behind this city-wide waste to compost drive. “Sadly, thats what was happening so far with not only the Pooja Samagris but a lot of food waste and biodegradable waste too”, he added.

“Priyanka calls compost as black gold,” the usable product those food and prasadi scraps are destined to become. It's an innovative effort which serves a dual purpose, as not only it will help us keeping the city clean but also producing something useful, life-giving and maybe in future can become employment generating too!

She also said "We especially want to thank Nagar Nigam Bhopal and would like to make an appeal to all the Bhopalis to kindly make this a regular effort. Also, you can always reach out to us for any kind of support.
