Inauguration of Sacred Groves of India Exhibition

Bhopal: Sacred Groves of India exhibition has been organised at Regional Museum of Natural History, Bhopal by IGRMS, Bhopal. This exhibition has been jointly inaugurated by Dr. Pankaj Srivastava, IFS Director, IIFM, Bhopal and Subharanjan Sen, IFS, M.D. MPFDC, and Prof. Sarit Kumar Chaudhuri, Director, Manav Sangrahalaya, Bhopal. Sacred Groves are the patches of natural or near-natural vegetation, dedicated by local communities to their ancestral spirits or deities.
While introducing the exhibition, Prof. Chaudhuri has informed that there are about 23000 types of sacred groves spread all over the country. This exhibition portrays the unique system of management of natural resource by the local people. The exhibition aims to project the different type of sacred groves, their ecological importance and conservation. Also it encourages protecting and further strengthening the local sacred in our area.
Pankaj Shrivastava added that probably the IGRMS is the only Museum of the world which is working for cultural heritage as well as for preservation of natural resources by way of such special exhibition.
