Government to encourage medal winners of Olympics, Asian and Commonwealth Games

Sports Minister Jitu Patwari's direct dialogue on development of sports with awardee players 

Bhopal: Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Jitu Patwari held a direct dialogue on the development of sports with the office-bearers of sports associations and the coaches honoured with the Vishwamitra award and the Arjun, Vikram, Eklavya awardee players. He said that important suggestions received through this dialogue will be implemented seriously so that the players get encouragement and sports is developed. If the players of the state participate in the Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, then the government will encourage them. Just as in other states, crores of rupees are made available to the players as honorarium; similarly our players too will be given a hiked amount of incentive. The proposal has been prepared and sent to the Finance Department. Sports Minister Patwari was addressing a Samvad programme at Martial Arts Hall situated in the T.T. Nagar Stadium today. Significant suggestions were given by Arjun, Vikram, Eklavya awardee players and coaches honoured with Vishwamitra Award and the office-bearers of the sports associations for the development of sports in the state during the programme.

Encouraging the players, Minister Patwari told that the gold medal winners of Olympics are proposed to be given Rs. 3 crore, silver winners Rs 2 crore and bronze winners Rs. 1 crore. Minimum Rs 10 lakh incentive will be given for participation. Rs 2 crore has been proposed to be given to the gold medal winners of Asian Games, Rs. 1 crore for silver medal winners and Rs. 75 lakhs for bronze medal winners are proposed to be given. Minimum Rs. 5 lakh will be given as incentive for participation. Rs. 50 lakhs are proposed to be given to the gold medal winners of Commonwealth or Asian Indoor Games, Rs. 30 lakhs to silver medal winners and Rs. 20 lakh to bronze medal winners and Rs. 2 lakh as incentive for participation. A proposal to give Rs. 6 lakh to gold medal winners of South Asian Games, Rs. 4 lakh to silver medalists and Rs 3 lakh to bronze medalists besides Rs 1.50 lakhs as incentive for participation has been sent to the government.

 
I neither recommended earlier nor
will I do it now nor ever in future
Sports Minister Jitu Patwari said in a direct dialogue with players at the T.T. Nagar Stadium that I have never interfered in the selection process of any player, nor have I ever recommended anyone. Giving information related to allegations made by a baseball player of Chhatarpur, which was recently telecast in various news channels, the Sports Minister said that I have ordered an inquiry into the case. Stern action will be taken against those found guilty He said he had neither recommended anyone earlier, nor does he do it now and neither will he ever do it.
In the Commonwealth, Asian or other international championships, there is a proposal to give Rs. 4 lakhs to gold medal winners, Rs. 3 lakh to silver medalists and Rs. 2 lakh to bronze medal winners besides Rs. 2 lakhs as incentive for participation. Apart from this, in the National Games, Rs. 6 lakhs has been proposed to be given to gold medal winners in team events, Rs. 4 lakhs for silver medal winners and Rs 3 lakh for bronze winners, it has also been proposed to give Rs 2 lakh to gold medalists, Rs 1.50 lakhs to silver medalists and Rs 1 lakh to bronze medal winners in individual and team category to authorized players of academies run by bonafide residents of MP or Sports Department of MP in the authorized national championship.

Patwari said that if a player fails to get a job despite continuous participation in national level sports, then the government will ensure that no injustice is meted out to any player. Minimum effective arrangements will be made for such players. The players will be given an incentive for participating in national, international level competitions. Apart from this, the incentive amount being given to the medal winners as a grand reward is being increased. In order to receive training in the country, the player will be paid Rs. 1.00 lakh or actual (whichever is less), which will include the player's to and fro travelling expenses, food, accommodation, training and medical expenditure.

Awardees laud Sports Minister’s initiative
This is the first time that suggestions were invited from awardees and players through a direct dialogue for sports development and in the interest of sportspersons. The initiative of Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Jitu Patwari was welcomed by the awardees and players present in the programme. Players believe that through this Mahakumbh (Samvad) important decisions will be taken in the interest of the players by formulating the sports policy.

Principal Secretary Sports, Aniruddha Mukherji, Director Sports Dr. S.L. Thausen, Arjuna awardee Hockey player Sunita Chandra, Sayyed Jalaluddin Rizvi, Wrestler Kripashankar, Pappu Yadav, Shooter Rajkumari Rathore, Sailing Coach G.L. Yadav and Rowing Coach Dalveer Singh were also present in the Samvad programme.-Window To News
