Bhopal gas victims struggle for proper compensation and better treatment
JAN 29 (WTN) - The hearing of center related to demanding additional amount of 7,844 crores from the successor of Union Carbide to pay compensation to the victims of Bhopal gas tragedy will now be heard in April. The bench of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Sanjeev Khanna said that they would take a hearing in the month of April on the corrective petition of the Central Government to increase the compensation amount of the victims.
For your information, let you know that the Central Government has demanded an additional amount of Rs 7,844 crore from the US Company Dow Chemicals, in addition to the $ 47 million previously obtained to give more compensation to the victims of Bhopal gas tragedy. The company had earlier given Rs 715 crore as compensation for the victims. Here, the central government has urged the company to issue instructions to the companies for additional funds for compensation from the Supreme Court.
Here, Bhopal gas tragedy victims are struggling for proper compensation and better treatment for many years. For your information, let you know that the Government of India had filed a corrective petition in 2010 for more compensation from the company. On the other hand, the victims were also preparing to send a petition to the Supreme Court with their signature to begin the hearing on the corrective petition.

As you know, more than 3,000 people died due to the leakage of methyl isocyanate gas in Bhopal Gas tragedy in 1984. On the other hand, due to this poisonous gas spread in the air, many people are facing physical and mental disorders till date. According to an investigation, the effect of the poisonous gas was so dangerous that the water of the land located near the Union Carbide Company has not been potable.
In an affidavit of the immediate State Government in 2006, it was acknowledged that around 5 lakh 20 thousand people of Bhopal city were directly affected by this poisonous gas. From time to time, the gas victims have been demanding more compensation, but neither the victims got the proper compensation nor the right treatment.
For your information, let you know that in 2010, a Bhopal court sentenced seven officers of Union Carbide India Limited to two-two years of imprisonment. In this case, Union Carbide Corporation Chairman Warren Anderson was the main accused, but he could never be arrested. In February 1992, the CJM Court of Bhopal declared him a fugitive and twice a non-bailable warrant was issued against him from the court, but he died in September 2014.
