People's Dental Academy: Workshop held on World Cancer Day

Feb 5, 2019 (WTN)- A two day workshop on "Social Dilemma in Oral Cancer Prevention" has been organized by the Public Health Dentistry Department, People's Dental Academy, Bhopal on February 4 and 5, 2019.The workshop was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Megha Vijaywargia Trustee and Director People's Group. Dr. Rajesh Kapoor Vice Chancellor People's University, Dr. VK Pandya Director Academy of People's University, Dr. Ajay Bhambal Dean People's College of Dental Sciences and Dr. Sumit Narang Dean People's Dental Academy graced the occassion.
 


The workshop started with the introduction of initial symptoms and prevention of Oral Cancer by Dr. Atul Samaiya, surgical oncologist from Bansal Hospital. He explained that treatment is possible only if the cancer is detected at an early stage. It is very important to be aware of this and it is also necessary to identify the symptoms of cancer. He also advised measures for prevention from cancer through cigarettes smoking and tobacco intake. Panel Discussion and Quiz was also organized in the workshop.

Among the eminent intellectuals of the panel were Dr. Ravi Gupta, Dr. Atul Samaiya, Dr. Renu Singh, Dr. Preety Nair, Dr. Yogesh Sharma, Dr. Einstein, Dr. Arpan, Dr. N Ganesh, Dr. Sardar Singh Yadav, Dr. Shubhangi Mhaske, Dr. Vrinda Saxena and Dr. Swapnil Jain. This panel discussion was based on very effective questions regarding early cancer and early detection of oral cancer. Dr. Ravi Gupta talked about early detection of oral cancer, Dr. Renu told about the care and surgical treatment of oral cancer, Dr. Ganesh spoke about home remedies to prevent oral cancer. Dr. Arpan said that all girls should take a resolution to marry a person who does not use any type of tobacco.  Various experiences were shared in the intellectual level panel discussions which were helpful in removing cancer related misconceptions.



The participant scholars actively participated in the workshop Question & Answer session. Dr. Renu Singh informed about the cancer of the head and throat; Dr. Sardar Singh Yadav talked about diagnosis and healing in cancer patients; Dr. Darpan Bhargava provided information about the useful diagnostic aids in the introduction of early cancer detection.

On the second day the workshop began with the lecture on rehabilitation by Dr. Sumit Khare for oral cancer patients. They discussed the prevention of cancer including surgical therapy and artificial limbs. Dr. Vrinda Saxena delivered lecture on oral cancer and tobacco intake. She discussed why Madhya Pradesh is known as the capital of oral cancer; measures for prevention of oral cancer with tobacco prohibition and reduction in rate of tobacco users. Dr. Shubhangi Mhaske was gave a lecture on early diagnosis of cancer wounds in which she explained how the lesions were detected by oral examination, and discussed the sites and  techniques to detect cancer lesions.

Lecture on the behavioral modification among the tobacco users was made by Dr. Swapnil Jain in which he spoke about the approach use for consultation of tobacco users and its techniques. After the lecture, hands on session was taken up in which Dr. Shubhangi Mhaske, Dr. Einstein, Dr. Swati and Dr. Nitin gave live practical demonstration to the participants for  screening process for oral lesions.The session concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Swapnil Jain. The workshop was successfully organized under the guidance of Dr. Vrinda Saxena Prof and HOD of the Department of Public Health Dentistry Peoples Dental Academy. All employees of Public Health Dentistry Department, People's Dental Academy made commendable contributions in the workshop. – Window To News
