One-day training of road safety nodal officers concludes
Bhopal: Special Director General of Police Purushottam Sharma has said that it is our responsibility to safeguard every person walking on the road. Every effort must be made to save people from accidents. Nodal officers have an important role in this. He said that all the officers will have to work in their respective areas. Sharma was addressing the concluding session of the one-day training of road safety of working nodal officers in Lead Agency at Police Training and Research Institute today.
Sharma said that parents will also have to be explained about road safety measures along with minors and youth. When an accident takes place, people start accusing each other when actually the treatment of the injured person should be the first priority. He said that as per the Chief Minister Kamal Nath, the person who sets out of home on the road is the bread winner of a family and his safety is very essential.
Need to develop footpath area on the roadside
Retired Deputy Inspector General of Police S.S. Lalli said that accidents are high on the good roads. There is need to develop the footpath area along the roadside. The footpath area is mostly taken over by encroachments and local administration must pay attention to this. He said that human nature also needs to be changed through awareness. He said that road safety has two objectives. The first is that the traffic should move smoothly and secondly no accidents should take place. He said that connectivity is essential to promote public transport. It is also important to create fear in people's minds that punishment will be given for breaking rules. Lalli said that the speed limit also has to be decided for pedestrians. Innovations should be promoted for road safety. School teachers should also be trained.
Safety of every person using the road is “Road Safety”
Sony Thomas of Road Accident Data Management System presented his perspective on Indian and Global Road Safety. He said that the security of every person using the road is 'road safety.' There is a need to bring awareness among the people with the help of the local community. Information of the dos and don’ts to save the injured, is also necessary for the common man. He emphasized on encouraging those who help in taking accident victims to the hospital after the accident. Raman told about the Integrated Road Accident Database. He said that soon a smart phone app is going to come in which immediate help can be made available to the injured by sending a photo and location from the accident site.
Accident not possible without confusion
MANIT Professor Rahul Tiwari gave information about traffic engineering. He said that developing a parking space is very important. There should be restrictions on parking vehicles outside houses also. Tiwari said that the accidents are always due to confusion. Therefore, chaotic situation should not be created.
Do not give water to injured victims who are unconscious and mentally unstable
Dr. Rajiv Jain informed about first aid activities for the injured. He said that injured persons should not be given water to drink if he is in an unconsciousness state and his mental condition is not stable. In case of dissection of a body part, the severed part should be cleaned and covered with a plastic box or foil and should be kept in cold water or ice, and the name of the injured person should be written on it without fail. This will allow the doctor to use it while treating the victim. Certificates were distributed to the trainees at the end of the programme.-Window To News
