High-level meeting concluded to review excess rain conditions
Assistance of Army and Air Force will be sought if need arises 
 
 
Bhopal 29 August 2020: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that it is our duty as well as dharma to ensure that there is no loss of life due to the extreme rainfall and flood situation in the state. Looking at the possibility of heavy rains in the coming 48 hours, he instructed the district administration to remain vigilant, particularly in Bhopal, Hoshangabad and Jabalpur division. If need arises, the help of Army and Air Force should be taken. Chief Minister Chouhan said that availability of SDRF, NDRF, boats, divers and equipment should be ensured immediately. In view of the possibility of waterlogging in lower settlements, people should be shifted to relief camps in time. All precautions should to be taken in the camps against Corona. Those affected by excess rainfall and floods may contact Dial-100 and phone no. 1079 for assistance. The district administration in Hoshangabad, Shahganj and Bareilly has also been instructed to remain alert for the next 10 days due to the constantly rising water level of Narmada river and opening of gates of various dams besides water flowing in from tributaries. District-wise information of probable low-lying areas falling under submergence was sought. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was reviewing the situation of excess rainfall and floods in the state. Division-wise situation was discussed in the meeting held at the CM House.

It was informed in the meeting that incessant rains continue in Bhopal, Hoshangabad and Jabalpur divisions and the situation is likely to continue in the next 48 hours. Also, Sagar and Ujjain divisions are also affected by rain. Gwalior division will also be affected. All the dams of the state are almost full. Gates that have been opened include 13 gates of Tawa Dam, 22 gates of Indira Sagar Dam, 21 gates out of 23 in Omkareshwar, 14 out of 18 on Rajghat Dam and 17 gates out of 2 in Bargi Dam. 

Sardar Sarovar Dam has also reached 7 meters below high level. The gates of Mandla and Pench Dam have also been opened. Chhindwara and Narsinghpur in Jabalpur division witnessed the highest rainfall. 150 people were evacuated to safe camp in Belkheda, Chhindwara. Madhu Kahar who got trapped in the flood here was rescued successfully. The water level is also continuously increasing due to the water flowing in from the Narmada river tributaries. In Indore division, maximum rainfall has been recorded in Khandwa. Damoh, Chhatarpur, Niwari of Sagar division are also affected by extreme rainfall and some families have been taken to camp in Rahatgarh.
