Gifting the hearing sense to children, Cochlear implant performed at People’s Hospital

In a rare surgery, hearing sense was gifted to children who were hearing impaired. This advanced surgery known as “Cochlear Implant “,was done by surgeons of ENT Department at People’s Hospital, Bhopal under guidance of well known doctor from Mumbai, Dr. Deepak Dalmia, who has to his credit more than 100 cochlear Implants. The most important fact was that most advanced technology Posterior Tympanotomy through round window was used in this surgery. A cochlear implant is an electronic medical device that replaces the function of the damaged inner ear. Unlike hearing aids, which make sounds louder, cochlear implants bypass the damaged hair cells of the inner ear (cochlea) to provide sound signals to the brain.
The team of doctors from People’s Hospital included Dr. Sadat Qureshi, Dr. Shalini Jadia from ENT Department; Dr. Dave, Dr. A Jain, Dr. Ashwani form anesthesia Department assisted in the surgery. Dr. Ashok Mhaske , Medical Director coordinated the surgery.
Sadia Khan,the mother of 4 year old Alia said that she was struggling to get her daughter treated as such kind to surgery was not available in any hospital wherever they had contacted in Bhopal. In Mumbai, the surgery cost was much above their budget. She thanked People’s Hospital for treating her daughter without any charge.
Pradeep Soni, the father of three year old Reva and Pappu Chaodhary, father of 4 year old Arun had no words to thank doctors and management of People’s Hospital for giving a new life to their wards and also for not charging any money for the surgery.
