Agriculture schemes should be practical

Farmers must be educated on how much and which crops they should grow

Bhopal 21 December 2020: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that farmers should be “educated” by the Agriculture Department on how much and which crops should be grown in the current Rabi and Kharif so that they can get good yield and better prices. For this, a list of these crops should be displayed before sowing of Rabi and Kharif crops in each Krishi Vigyan Kendra. Both agricultural universities of the state should also play an active role in this regard.

Chief Minister Chouhan said that various schemes related to agriculture should be practical and not based on principle, so that their benefits can be provided to farmers. What is the benefit of making such schemes that do not reach the farmers fields. Schemes that are not useful should be discontinued. Chief Minister Chouhan was reviewing the works of Agriculture Department in Mantralaya today. In the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary K.K. Singh, Principal Secretary Ajit Kesri, Principal Secretary Manoj Govil etc. were present.

Crops should be constantly monitored

Chief Minister Chouhan said that the Agriculture Department should ensure continuous monitoring of crops through Krishi Vigyan Kendras and Agricultural Universities, so that crops do not get destroyed due to disease, like this time it happened with soyabean.

Hologram mandatory on packets of certified seeds

Hologram will be mandatory on packets of certified seeds to ensure good quality seeds to farmers. This provision will be applicable from next Kharif.

Make comprehensive agricultural development programme for villages

Chief Minister Chouhan directed that a comprehensive agricultural development programme should be chalked out for villages to increase income in agriculture sector.

Research benefits should reach fields

Chief Minister Chouhan directed that under the “Lab to Land” programme, Agriculture universities have conducted researches and prepared the scheme. It should not be limited to research only. The benefits of research should reach the fields of farmers.

30 Krishi Upaj Mandis of the state will be made hi-tech

Chief Minister Chouhan said that all the Krishi Upaj Mandis of the state are being developed. In the first phase, 30 Krishi Upaj Mandis of the state are being made modern and hi-tech. Facilities like godown, storage, value addition, cold storage and agri clinics will be given. Grading machines will also be installed.

FPO work should be done on Mission Mode

Chief Minister Chouhan instructed that in order to provide better prices to farmers, maximum FPOs (Farmer Producer Groups) should be formed in the state and the current FPOs should be made more active. This will enable the farmer to sell his crop directly in the market and reduce the work of middlemen. At present 394 F.P.Os are active. Each F.P.O can have a minimum of three persons.

Every year 30 percent of seeds must be replaced

Chief Minister Chouhan said that 30 percent seeds should be replaced every year for good crops. Farmers should get improved seeds. Seed producing cooperative societies should be further activated in the state.

New Krishi Vigyan Kendras in 2 districts

At present, Krishi Vigyan Kendras are operating in 50 districts of the state. New Krishi Vigyan Kendras will be opened in the remaining two districts of Vidisha and Niwari.

GI tagging of state’s major crops

Chief Minister Chouhan said that GI tagging of major crops of the state including Sharbati Wheat, Lal Gram Pipariya Tour, Kali Mooch Rice, Jeera Shankar Rice and Chinnor Paddy. GI tagging of Basmati Rice is in progress.

MP tops in Central government’s Agricultural Infrastructure Fund (AIF) Scheme

Madhya Pradesh ranks first in India in the implementation of Central government’s Agricultural Infrastructure Fund (AIF) scheme to provide loans for development of agricultural infrastructure. A total of 222 cases worth Rs 231 crore have been verified from Madhya Pradesh. Out of these, loans worth Rs 21 crores have been disbursed in 23 cases and 87 cases of Rs 98 crores are pending with banks for disbursement of loans. Action in the remaining cases is in progress.

Under this, maximum cases presented are for warehouses worth Rs 152 crores and Rs 26 crores for cold storage, Rs 2.2 crores for sorting and grading and Rs 2.02 crores for logistics. Cases have been presented from 29 districts of the state, out of which 38 cases have been submitted from Raisen, 26 from Bhopal, 15 from Sehore and 14 from Indore. The Chief Minister congratulated all concerned for this achievement – Window to News
