Bhopal 06 January 2021: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has instructed that all efforts should be made for the prevention and control of bird flu, an infectious disease found in chickens in Madhya Pradesh. Even though such cases have not come up in Madhya Pradesh, all precautions should be taken.
Chief Minister Chouhan held a meeting with senior officials at his residence in the morning on Wednesday to review efforts being taken for prevention and control of bird flu in the state. Presently there is no such problem in the state, necessary precautionary measures have been taken. The districts have been made aware of the guidelines issued by the Government of India. Poultry will be banned for a limited period from the border states of Kerala including South India. This temporary prohibition has been imposed as a precautionary measure.
This step has been taken as a precaution after reports of death of crows in some places of the state. Confirmation of the disease is awaited from National Institute of High Security Diseases (NISHAD) in the districts from where such news has been received. As a precautionary measure, an alert has been issued for control and mitigation of disease throughout the state.
Chief Minister Chouhan issued instructions to follow the guidelines in the districts. Along with this, instructions were given to Animal Husbandry Department and allied departments and agencies to be vigilant in this matter, conduct random checks and provide necessary information to the public. He said that the poultry farms in places where deaths of birds have been reported, should also be monitored as a precautionary measure. It was informed in the meeting that daily status of bird flu in the state is being conveyed to the Government of India. Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang, Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains, Additional Chief Secretary Animal Husbandry J.N. Kansotiya, Additional Chief Secretary Public Health and Family Welfare Mohammad Suleman and other officials were present.

In some districts, action was taken for sample collection and prevention and control of the disease on receiving the news of death of crows.
Necessary action has been taken immediately due to the efforts made by animal husbandry, forest, health and local bodies under Collector’s guidance in the bird flu disease prone districts. Vigilance is being maintained as per the guidelines of the Government of India.
At present the infection of in H5N8 virus bird flu has been reported. This virus has not been found in chickens.
Divisional teams are closely monitoring reservoirs, poultry farms and poultry markets in the districts.
Necessary information about prevention from the bird flu is being given to poultry farmers and businessmen, for public awareness.
There has been no report of unnatural death of backyard chicken and poultry farm in the district of Madhya Pradesh. The staff of the Department of Animal Husbandry is keeping full vigil in the districts.
On receiving information regarding sickness or unnatural death of crows or chickens, immediate samples are collected and sent to the laboratory.
The infected places are disinfected and sanitized in collaboration with the localbodies of the district. All concerned have been made aware of this protocol.
