Cabinet pays tribute to victims of Sidhi and Niwari accidents

Assistance of Rs 7 lakh sanctioned to the families of the deceased persons in Sidhi accident 
 
Bhopal 16 February 2021: Before the meeting of the Council of Ministers in the Mantralaya chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, a minute’s silence was observed to pay homage to those who lost their lives in a bus accident in Sidhi district and caving in of mine in Niwari district. Chief Minister Chouhan informed the members of the cabinet regarding the bus accident in Sidhi district. He told that at 7:30 am the bus fell into the canal of Bansagar Dam after it went out of control. Rescue operations commenced with immediate effect, which have now completed. 45 people have died in this accident, including 24 men, 20 women and a child. The Chief Minister also informed about the death of three persons due to sinking of soil in a private mine in Niwari district.

Prime Minister Modi expresses grief

Chief Minister Chouhan said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed condolences over the bus accident in Sidhi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also expressed deep sorrow. On the initiative of Prime Minister Modi, assistance of Rs. 2 lakh each will be provided by the Central Government and Rs. 5 lakh each by the State Government to the families of each deceased person. He said that Rs 10 thousand each have been provided to the concerned families by the district administration as immediate help.

State government will arrange for treatment of the injured

The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has announced to provide assistance of 50 thousand rupees to each injured person. Chief Minister Chouhan said that every possible treatment would be provided to the injured persons by the state government. Instructions have been given to the district administration that funeral arrangements of those who died should be made with full sensitivity.

Administrative staff of three districts engaged in rescue operation

Chief Minister Chouhan said that as soon as the accident was reported the rescue operation was started immediately. Collectors, SPs, administrative staff, teams of SDRF and NDRF of three districts were immediately activated. All the necessary resources of relief and assistance including cranes, hydra, ambulances and doctors remained constantly active on the spot. The situation was constantly co-ordinated with Bhopal.

Chief Minister Chouhan said that in view of this accident, the Griha Pravesh programme of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) to be held today has been postponed. With this, today's cabinet meeting was also carried forward till the rescue operation was completed – Window to News
