Commission holds meeting with members of political parties

Bhopal 09 March 2021: A meeting was held with the members of nationally recognized political parties in connection with the general election of urban bodies and three-tier panchayats at the Station Election Commission. In the meeting, State Election Commissioner Basant Pratap Singh gave information about election procedures. Singh said that as per the directions of the High Court, the Commission will compulsorily declare one election in March.

Representatives of the political party said during the meeting that the three-tier panchayat elections should be held first. The delegates however said that if the panchayat elections are not held now, then it will not be possible to hold the election in the rainy season, because the MP Board examinations are scheduled from April 30 to May 18 and the CBSE board examinations are scheduled from May 4 to June 12. Urban body elections can be held during the rainy season also.

State Election Commissioner Singh said that several proceedings related to Panchayat elections are pending at the government level. Panchayat elections can be considered only in the event of completion of these proceedings in the next 15 to 20 days. If this is not done then elections of urban bodies will be held first.

In the meeting, representatives of some political parties spoke about getting elections held by ballot. State Election Commissioner however made it clear that elections will be held from EVM only. On being informed about errors in voter list by members of political parties, State Election Commissioner Singh said that all complaints are being resolved promptly. Meanwhile, Secretary State Election Commission Durg Vijay Singh and other officials were present.
