CM Chouhan reviews work of Sleemanabad Tunnel of Bargi Diversion Project
Bhopal 26 March 2021: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that there has been a lot of delay in the construction work of Sleemanabad Tunnel of Bargi Diversion Project. Now there should not be any delay in this work. The tunnel work should be started by fulfilling all formalities immediately and it should be completed as soon as possible.
Chief Minister Chouhan was reviewing the work of Sleemanabad Tunnel of Bargi Diversion Project in Mantralaya today. Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Horticulture, Food Processing and Narmada Valley Development Bharat Singh Kushwaha, Minister of State for Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare (Independent Charge) Ram Khelavan Patel, Satna MP Ganesh Singh, Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains and Additional Chief Secretary ICP Keshari were present in the meeting.
Tenure of construction agency must be extended
With a view to completing the work early, decision was taken in the meeting to extend the tenure of the present agency for the next 3 months first and to monitor the work persistently during this period. If the work is satisfactory, then the work should be completed by extending the time period.
Entire technical staff must be changed
Taking serious note of the delay in work, Chief Minister Chouhan directed that responsibility should be fixed for it and the entire technical staff should be changed. Also, it should be ensured that the work is no longer delayed and the work is of high quality.
Status of the project and work
The contract for the 11.95 km long Sleemanabad tunnel of Bargi diversion project was signed in March 2008, which was to be completed in a period of 40 months by July 2011, but despite extending the time period four times, the work has not been completed till date. So far, a total of 5.74 km of work has been completed and 6.21 km of tunnel is remaining. The contracted cost of the tunnel is Rs 799 crore, out of which Rs 560.70 crore has been spent. The tunnel will provide irrigation facility in 60 thousand hectare area of Jabalpur district, 21 thousand 823 districts of Katni district and 1 lakh 59 thousand 655 hectare area of Satna district.
