"I am so happy today, I have got a new life, I have no words to thank the doctors who gave a new life to me" said the patient Kamlesh Yadav to our reporter after first ever cadaveric kidney trasplant of Bhopal was performed by Dr Saurabh Jain and Dr A.D.Suri at Siddhanta Red Cross Superspeciality Hospital.
38 years old Kamlesh from Budhni Distt. Sehore had a near death experience two years back, when he was admitted on ventilator due to kidney failure. His cadaveric kidney transplant was done on 14th April and he was discharged on today, after 8 days of surgery with normal kidney functions.
Incidentally, Siddanta Red Cross Super Specialty Hospital, Bhopal is the first hospital of central India to perform first cadaveric Liver transplant in November 2016. Mr. Upmanyu Trivedi, Director of Siddanta Red Cross Super Specialty Hospital, Bhopal was happy to inform that within one year of getting transplant permission, the hospital has become a known " Centre od Excellence" for liver and kidney transplant.
When asked about why "cadaveric transplant" of kidney was preferred over "live transplant " , Dr Suri and Dr Jain told that live transplant of organs has many legal issues and thus cadaveric transplant is considered by many doctors. In live transplant, the donor should be a relative of patient and approval has to be taken from relevant government authorities.
Dr Subodh Varshney , Medical Director of Siddhanta told that for such kidney transplant the cost comes out to be nearly 4.5 lacs. He was of a strong opinion that organ donation awareness should be promoted in society so that more and more people can donate their organs after their death. Madhya Pradesh government is also promoting organ transplant and is formulating various schemes for benefit of patients who are below poverty line. He also communicated that the second cadaveric transplant done on 17th April is also recovering well and will be discharged within next two days.
